“It is what one knows that is important, not what one doesn’t”
                                                                                  - Baba Vasudev

Two news items last week amply demonstrates the usefulness of a person in a given situation. One was the swearing in of Golmadevi Kirorilal Meena as a minister in Rajasthan State Government and the other was Chanda Kochhar to head ICICI Bank. One, a lady who got elected to the Rajasthan Legislature, had to practice putting her signature on the oath letter and the other was taking over as the chief of second largest private sector bank in India. Golmadevi may not know the intricacies of banking as Chanda Kochhar does or Kochhar may not know anything about the problems of one of the most backward states in India. But what they know has brought them where they are today, their expertise in their respective fields.

It is what one knows that is important.

“Go to bed with good and happy thoughts and a clear mind to get sound sleep”

                                                                            - Baba Vasudev

Remember the number of times you had dozed off while reading a book or while watching TV and lights on and suddenly woken up by the noise of that book falling or something loud on TV. You wonder how you slept so soundly for so long. Remember those bedtime stories without which we never slept? As we grew up our elders, especially grand parents, wisely told us to pray before going to bed. Listening to a story, reading stories to your kids, reading books, watching television or praying actually takes one’s mind off those unwanted thoughts that may have kept you awake. Its not a bad idea and it works, try it.

Go to bed with good and happy thoughts and a clear mind to get sound sleep.

"There is no sense in traveling on a road that reaches you nowhere"
                                                                      - Baba Vasudev

Whether it’s an argument, an unending discussion or one’s own life, it’s what one does that matters most. Especially in case of one’s life as precious time may be irreplaceably lost. It could be an unsuitable job one is holding, an unhappy marriage, a partnership where the partners don’t trust each other or anything that just doesn’t fit; like that square peg in the round hole. Because time lost at the beginning may well decide where you will reach in your life, the sooner one is out of an argument, excuses oneself from a discussion or just gets out of that road, the better.

'We would have been still hunting for food if experimenting youngsters had not come up with ideas'

- Baba Vasudev

My first note to ‘her’ was hidden in a fountain pen which had a tube in it which you squeezed to fill ink up. Such pens made its appearance in that year a long long time ago and I was in 8th Standard. A year later the Ball Point Pen made its appearance and I was the first one to fill up an empty refill of the Ball Point Pen with our normal ink; do you think I invented Gel Pen? Next year ‘Movicol’ (Fevicol) made its appearance along with Laminates called ‘Sunmica’. I had filled a small bottle with that whitish gum and after much experiments used it to stick two halves of the previous days Cinema tickets and enter the theatre without getting caught and see the same film again. We have only to look back to those younger years in our lives and see the silly things we did, and get surprised how the world have invented gadgets with the ideas we had.

We would have been still hunting for food if we had followed the ways of our elders.

' We should be like children'
                                                         -- Baba Vasudev

They run, they play, they trip, they fall and they get hurt.
They cry, and then cry some more. Then they go back to what they were doing; run and play. The injury is forgotten, though the pain's still there but it doesn't hurt any more. They don't go looking for the cause, someone or something to blame or for retribution. A little while later they even forget that they had a fall......

We should be like children.

"Help others, carry a smile on your face"
                                                                                                                           --Baba Vasudev

One of the most contagious things one can pass on to another is ...the smile on your face...ever notice how kids look at you when you look at them and smile, they smile back at you. Grownups do that too. Have you ever seen a grownup not returning your smile, they wouldn't know why but still give a smile back? A happy face is an attractive face, a beautiful face, and  'a thing of beauty is a joy for ever'. Give that joy to others; carry a smile on your face. It's very simple to do, and it's easy to carry, too.

”Home and Workplace are two different places, keep them that way”

'Everyday, when I start back for home, I review the day in my mind, and look for my successes of the day. Even one is enough for me to reach cheerfully back home, happy and peppy. The feeling is like being on top of the world. And when I have that feeing in mind and I reach home, I have a smile on my face. Everyone at home cheer up when they see me happy and the evening is well spent and all the tiredness vanishes.'
