I have read several e mails that spread utterly ridiculous rumours and panic. And more irritating is people falling for them and forwarding without checking for facts! It's spreading such false information and making people worry unnecessarily!
This was the forward I got from so many people who I mistook to be educated!
"In Ahmedabad 10 yrs old boy had eaten "panipuri" about 15 days ago and fell sick, later when he had his health check done doctors diagnosed that he had AIDS. His parents couldn't believe it...? Then the entire family under went a checkup none of them was suffering from that. The doctors checked with the boy if he had eaten out? And the boy says he had panipuri one evening. The hospital team went there to check. They found the panipuri seller had a cut on his finger while cutting the onions, and his blood had spread in the food. When they had his blood checked... the guy was suffering from AIDS but he himself was not aware. Please take care while u eat from road side panipuri wallas or roadside vendors. kindly forward this message to your friends!!! "
There is absolutely no truth in this! The fact is that even if someone's blood has HIV virus, when the blood leaves the body, it gets disinfected that is the virus die immediately. So, only when fresh blood comes in contact with a wound or enter your body would you get the infection.
The only way pani puri could harm you is give you a bad tummy if you eat too much and at an unhygienic place.
Another forward I got was about a girl sitting on a needle in the theatre and getting a note, 'welcome to the World of AIDS'. Again, the same logic. Even if the needle has an HIV infected person's blood, it HAS to dry blood, which has no infection at all. Obviously the person has to have planted the needle much earlier to stick the note there or else he'd get caught and thrashed out.
So, even if you do sit on a needle and get a note... just get an antiseptic injection and God help you if you sat on the needle to deep and can't sit for a few days!
So, please don't fall for such stupid forwards. You can do what I do... call the person an educated fool and send the explanation and ask him / her to go get a life! Some people just get cheap thrills from doing such things, like making you believe you will have 7 years of ill luck if you didn't forward their stupid message to 70 people.
