It's reported that more than 10,000 marriages
a year now are directly traceable to romances
which begin during coffee breaks.
  Engagement Lengths
The average engagement lasts 6 months.

First Love
Two out of five marry their first love.
  Wearing a Wedding Ring
The reason that the engagement ring and wedding band
is worn on the fourth finger of the left hand is because
the ancient Egyptians thought that the "vein of love"
ran from this finger directly to the heart.
  Go Ahead and Kiss
A team of medical experts in Virginia contends that you're more likely
to catch the common cold virus by shaking hands than by kissing.

WHAT IS LUCK?

We have all heard people using the word lucky and our everyday language is full of phrases with the word lucky in them i.e. “I’m so unlucky”, “you’re so lucky”,  “my luck has run out”, “you can count your lucky stars”. All these sayings cover a multitude of circumstances without any rational explanation

A friend of mine felt he was so unlucky that he never missed the opportunity to trot out his hard done by stories. “My luck is so bad”, he would insist, “that when they were giving out the good luck, not only was I at the back of the queue but they actually shut up shop two days earlier!”.

What is luck and what do we mean to be lucky or unlucky.  Is there any logic behind the word lucky ?.  You see to some people being lucky, means being at the right place at the right time.  Take a footballer - he’s got to be at the right place when the ball is passed to him to score the goal that will send the fans wild with excitement.  Did the footballer make his own good fortune or was he just lucky?.

A famous golfer who people said was lucky because he often got a  hole in one, dismissed the notion by saying “the harder I practise the luckier I get”.

Different people see luck in different ways.  A while back I was discussing with a friend what we would do if we won the Lottery. After talking about what we would and wouldn’t do if our numbers come up. I said to him you would have to be lucky to win, he said “not if I consciously pick those six numbers and they came up. If I went for a lucky dip and won I would have being lucky”. Working on that rationale I think he’s got a point, but if you asked a statistician he might say that considering the odds against picking the right numbers make any winner lucky.

Occasionally with hints of jealousy we have all said isn’t he/she lucky to have such a gorgeous boyfriend/girlfriend. The truth is they had the confidence to ask out the girl or boy of their dreams. A confident person can deal with rejection. For a confident person it’s a challenge and an opportunity to ask as many times as it takes to charm their ideal partner into their arms.  For the rest of us it’s heads down, forgetting that our so call ’lucky’ friends did not stop asking at the first, second or third rejection they encountered.

A lucky escape  is a sound bite adjective that suggests we were fortunate to have come to no harm. Lucky charms, old wives tales and superstitions can all be controlling factors on our life, in a positive or negative way.

Personally I don’t think luck has anything to do with whether good or bad deeds come our way.  Good and bad things will happen and that’s just a fact of life. It’s how we react to them that matters. In my opinion luck is a phrase used to describe any combination of happenings based on the laws of possibility and probability.

To be honest I don’t consider my self to be lucky or unlucky . I’m just really thankful and grateful to God for all that I have and the positive things which are happening in my life. I’m also thankful that my faith gives me the strength to cope with all the negative things. And that is also thanks to God and by the grace of Jesus Christ.

I also know worrying about whether you’re lucky or unlucky can just mess with your head and waste a lot of precious time.  I prefer to spend my time praying and trusting in God and I know that loving him means I’m onto a winner!!!.

HAPPY HAPPY NEW YEAR

It's Another New Year...

...but for what reason?
"Happy New Year!" That greeting will be said and heard for at least the first couple of weeks as a new year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern America was not always January 1.

ANCIENT NEW YEARS
The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).

The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.

The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year's Eve festivities pale in comparison.

The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.

In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

THE CHURCH'S VIEW OF NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS
Although in the first centuries AD the Romans continued celebrating the new year, the early Catholic Church condemned the festivities as paganism. But as Christianity became more widespread, the early church began having its own religious observances concurrently with many of the pagan celebrations, and New Year's Day was no different. New Years is still observed as the Feast of Christ's Circumcision by some denominations.

During the Middle Ages, the Church remained opposed to celebrating New Years. January 1 has been celebrated as a holiday by Western nations for only about the past 400 years.

NEW YEAR TRADITIONS
Other traditions of the season include the making of New Year's resolutions. That tradition also dates back to the early Babylonians. Popular modern resolutions might include the promise to lose weight or quit smoking. The early Babylonian's most popular resolution was to return borrowed farm equipment.

The Tournament of Roses Parade dates back to 1886. In that year, members of the Valley Hunt Club decorated their carriages with flowers. It celebrated the ripening of the orange crop in California.

Although the Rose Bowl football game was first played as a part of the Tournament of Roses in 1902, it was replaced by Roman chariot races the following year. In 1916, the football game returned as the sports centerpiece of the festival.

The tradition of using a baby to signify the new year was begun in Greece around 600 BC. It was their tradition at that time to celebrate their god of wine, Dionysus, by parading a baby in a basket, representing the annual rebirth of that god as the spirit of fertility. Early Egyptians also used a baby as a symbol of rebirth.

Although the early Christians denounced the practice as pagan, the popularity of the baby as a symbol of rebirth forced the Church to reevaluate its position. The Church finally allowed its members to celebrate the new year with a baby, which was to symbolize the birth of the baby Jesus.

The use of an image of a baby with a New Years banner as a symbolic representation of the new year was brought to early America by the Germans. They had used the effigy since the fourteenth century.

FOR LUCK IN THE NEW YEAR
Traditionally, it was thought that one could affect the luck they would have throughout the coming year by what they did or ate on the first day of the year. For that reason, it has become common for folks to celebrate the first few minutes of a brand new year in the company of family and friends. Parties often last into the middle of the night after the ringing in of a new year. It was once believed that the first visitor on New Year's Day would bring either good luck or bad luck the rest of the year. It was particularly lucky if that visitor happened to be a tall dark-haired man.

Traditional New Year foods are also thought to bring luck. Many cultures believe that anything in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes "coming full circle," completing a year's cycle. For that reason, the Dutch believe that eating donuts on New Year's Day will bring good fortune.

AULD LANG SYNE
The song, "Auld Lang Syne," playing in the background, is sung at the stroke of midnight in almost every English-speaking country in the world to bring in the new year. At least partially written by Robert Burns in the 1700's, it was first published in 1796 after Burns' death. Early variations of the song were sung prior to 1700 and inspired Burns to produce the modern rendition. An old Scotch tune, "Auld Lang Syne" literally means "old long ago," or simply, "the good old days." The lyrics can be found here.

In the northern parts of India, Diwali is celebrated for five days while in the South it may vary between 1 to 3 days. Day 1: 'Dhan Trayodashi' or 'Dhanteras': Dhan means wealth. Shopping of goods and gold is done on this auspicious day. Day 2: Narak Chatudashi: Signfies victory of good over evil and light over darkness. In South India, people wake up early in the morning and have their oil bath (oil massage with sesame oil either the head alone or whole body) within the BrahmaMahurth, that is between 3:30 and 6:00 in the early morning. It is believed that taking bath at that time is equivalent to taking bath in the Ganges; hence the usage, Gangasnanam aaccha (Tamil)? which means "Had your Gangasnan?" Snan (Sanskrit) - means bath.

Day 3: Lakshmi Pooja is celebrated when Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth is invited to home with all due respects. Hence people cleanse their home and surroundings couple of days before the festivities and whitewash it. On this day, they lit lamps (diyas) around the house to welcome prosperity. Day 4: Govardhan pooja is performed. It is also called Annakut.Anna - food; kut- mountain. A small mount of food is decorated which symbolises the Govardhan, the mountain lifted by Krishna. Offerings and worships are made to thank Lord Krishna. Day 5: Bhaiduj /Bhayyaduj /Bhaubeej/Bhayitika: On this day, brothers and sisters come together where brothers show their love and affection by gifting their sisters. It is an assurance made by the brother to sister that he is there for her in all times. It is similar to the Raksha Bandhan.

Sikhs
Sikhs also celebrate Diwali. it is on this day their sixth Guru, Guru Har Govind Singh was released from the captivity of the fort of Gwalior city. The people lit lamps in the way to Shri Harmandhir Sahib popularly known as 'the Golden Temple', in order to honour and to welcome their beloved Guru.

Jains:
Jains also celebrate Diwali since Jain prophet Bhagvaan Mahaveer, the founder of Jainism attained 'Nirvana'on this Day. Hence, Jains celebrate the festival of Diwali in remembrance of Lord Mahavira.
AAP SABKO DEPAWALI MUBARAQ!

All You Ever Wanted To Know About Love

Love is a basic emotion, yet you cannot plan to fall in love or create conditions for being in love. It is something over which you have no control. Either you fall in love or you do not. It is ordained. Ramakrishna explains this with the following analogy: "When a huge tidal wave comes, all the little brooks and ditches become full to the brim without any effort or consciousness on their own part”.

However, there are some criteria for judging whether one is in love or not.

The first test is that you do not want exclusive possession of the object of your love. You wish the world to know of your love. You could declare your love from the rooftop. And you wish to do or say whatever makes the person you love happy. M K Gandhi said: "Love and exclusive possession can never go together. Theoretically where there is perfect love, there must be perfect non-possession”.

The second test of love is that there can be no bargain. It does not recognise reward or punishment. Love itself is a merit, and itself its own reward. Beyond itself love seeks neither cause nor outcome; the outcome of it is one with the practice of it.

You love something or someone for its own sake and not because you want or desire a favour in return. Love is not a means to some ephemeral or non-ephemeral end, but is an end in itself. Love is not a response to a certain positive situation. You can go on loving... for when you give your love it comes back millions of times more.

The notion of giving is so consequential to love that "if you do not give it, it goes, it becomes dead, it becomes a dead weight on you. It becomes hatred — it turns into its very opposite. It becomes fear, it becomes jealousy, it becomes possessiveness”

HI,

LET US TALK ABOUT QUANTUM REALITY.

The wave particle duality principle of quantum physics holds that matter and light exhibit the behaviors of both waves and particles, depending upon the circumstances of the experiment. It is a complex topic, but among the most intriguing in physics.

In 1905, Albert Einstein published his paper to explain the photoelectric effect, which proposed that light traveled as discrete bundles of energy. The energy contained within a photon was related to the frequency of the light. This theory came to be known as the photon theory of light (although the word photon wasn't coined until years later).

As experiments were performed and evidence accumulated, the implications quickly became clear and alarming:

Light functions as both a particle and a wave, depending on how the experiment is conducted and when observations are made.

Fermions & Bosons
All elementary particles in physics are classified as either fermions or bosons. Quantum physics demonstrates the particles may have an intrinsic non-zero "spin," or angular momentum, associated with them.

A fermion (named after Enrico Fermi) is a particle with a half-integer spin, while a boson (named after Satyendra Nath Bose) is a particle with an integer spin. These spins result in different mathematical applications in certain situations, which is far beyond the scope of this article.

Basic Particles of Nature
Most people are familiar with the following particles, all of which are composed of still smaller objects, so I'll not spend much time addressing them here:

    * Atom - the basic chemical building block of matter, atoms are composed of electrons, protons and neutrons.
    * Molecule - a complex structure composed of multiple atoms bonded together.
    * Proton - a positively-charged particle that resides, typically, in the nucleus of an atom
    * Neutron - a particle with no electrical charge that resides, typically, in the nucleus of an atom
    * Electron - a negatively-charged particle that circles atoms and can be transferred from one atom to another

Breaking It Down: Quarks & Leptons
The two basic constituents of matter are quarks and leptons. Both of these subatomic particles are fermions, so all bosons are created from an even combination of these particles.

Quarks are fundamental particles which interact through all four of the fundamental forces of physics: gravity, electromagnetism, weak interaction, and strong interaction. Quarks always exist in combination to form subatomic particles known as hadrons. Hadrons, just to make things even more complicated, are divided into mesons (which are bosons) and baryons (which are fermions). Protons & neutrons are baryons. In other words, they are composed of quarks such that their spin is a half-integer value.

Leptons, on the other hand, are fundamental particles that do not experience strong interaction. There are three "flavors" of leptons: the electron, the muon, and the tau. Each flavor is composed of a "weak doublet," which is the aforementioned particle along with a virtually massless neutral particle called a neutrino. Thus the electron lepton is the weak doublet of electron & electron-neutrino.

SO,DEAR FRIENDS...,these r some of the facts of quantum domain.Later sometime I will explain ,how this affects our very LIVES.

Try to read it carefully, and delve into the secrets of the UNIVERSE.U R free to comment, make suggestions.

SIMPLE STORY WITH NEW DIMENSION

A teacher teaching Maths to seven-year-old Arnav asked him, "If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?"Within a few seconds Arnav replied confidently, "Four!"

The dismayed teacher was expecting an effortless correct answer (three).  She was disappointed.  "Maybe the child did not listen properly," she thought.  She repeated, "Arnav, listen carefully.  If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?"

Arnav had seen the disappointment on his teacher's face.  He calculated again on his fingers.  But within him he was also searching for the answer that will make the teacher happy.  His search for the answer was not for the correct one, but the one that will make his teacher happy.  This time hesitatingly he replied, "Four…"

The disappointment stayed on the teacher's face.  She remembered that Arnav liked strawberries.  She thought maybe he doesn't like apples and that is making him loose focus.  This time with an exaggerated excitement and twinkling in her eyes she asked, "If I give you one strawberry and one strawberry and one strawberry, then how many you will have?"

Seeing the teacher happy, young Arnav calculated on his fingers again.  There was no pressure on him, but a little on the teacher.  She wanted her new approach to succeed.  With a hesitating smile young Arnav enquired, "Three?"

The teacher now had a victorious smile.  Her approach had succeeded.  She wanted to congratulate herself.  But one last thing remained.  Once again she asked him, "Now if I give you one apple and one apple and one more apple how many will you have?"

Promptly Arnav answered, "Four!"
The teacher was aghast.  "How Arnav, how?" she demanded in a little stern and irritated voice.

In a voice that was low and hesitating young Arnav replied, "Because I already have one apple in my bag."

MORAL :

"When someone gives you an answer that is different from what you expect don't think they are wrong.  There maybe an angle that you have not understood at all. You will have to listen and understand, but never listen with a predeterm

Here are a few simple rules to live by, which are sure to help you look younger than your years.

Drink it up!

Water therapy has been long touted as a solution to many body ills. Lack of water in the body can lead to sluggishness and even de-motivation. Not only does drinking water keep you energetic throughout the day, it flushes the body cells of environmental toxins. Apart from water, other fluids that will help you keep full and peppy are fruit juices - especially sweet lime, orange and watermelon- and herbal teas.

Eat sensibly:

Avoid fried food stuff completely. For every-day cooking, switch to healthier oils like olive oil or sunflower oil, canola or sesame oil. Don’t starve yourself. Rather eat small portions but more number of meals in the day. Focus should be on high-fibre and protein diet. Limit carbohydrates and fats to natural sources like pulses and nuts rather than going for pastas and cheese. Natural fat that is good for the body can be had from avocados, peanuts and other vegetables that help protect the heart. Get your dose of vitamins and minerals through fresh fruits, skimmed milk and veggies.

If you can, stick to the ‘no food after 7.00 pm’ rule. A lighter meal in the evenings should be a matter of daily habit. A soup or a whole-wheat sandwich could be substituted for a full course meal.

Wellness mantra:
Yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercises will give you the kick needed to feel great about life. Breathing deep helps you relieve stress while also clearing out the lungs. These also help in stretching your muscles and weight loss. Meditation will help you forget niggling worries and focus on that which is important in life. The three activities put together tone up the inner body and this shows in a happier and glowing countenance.

Sleep well:

Lack of sleep can add a decade to your face. It also causes a wooly-headed response to most life situations that could lead to further stress. If your work keeps you up at nights, remember that research has shown that retention and performance is better if you sleep well. You might just hit upon a solution in the morning to a work problem, after a fitful night sleep. Sleep also helps your face muscles to relax and helps skin cells regenerate.

Laugh a lot:
Don’t fear laugh lines cause nothing can make you look more youthful than laughter full of abandon! Serious looking expressions are considered natural accompaniments of ageing but need it be so? Laughter therapy is said to trigger the release of endorphins, body’s natural painkillers that also help you handle any stress better.

Over-exfoliation can backfire:

Subjecting your skin to abrasive facials can reduce its’ immunity in the long run. Go for gentle peels derived from organic matter and essential oils. Don’t rely excessively on artificial methods for that youthful glow. Work on the inside too. A monthly trip to the salon is helpful for a groomed look though.

It’s never too late to start exercising: Weave body movement into your daily schedule. This can be done by walking to work, taking the stairs or socializing on the go. Exercise also helps you sleep well which in turn helps your skin tone.

Shun sugar:
Inflammation can cause aging in skin and one reason why inflammation occurs is a rapid rise in blood sugar. Increase in sugar levels can also make the skin stiff and inflexible affecting its elastic resilience. Go natural; opt for honey or jaggery instead.

Try out these steps and you’ll see that not only will you end up feeling youthful; it will sit light on ur pocket too.
