                 Treating Varicose vein without Surgery
                                                                By Multipolar RFA

Comfortable, sedentary life-style and performing professional duties have contributed to increased incidence of varicose vein. According to one estimate, 15 to 20 per cent of the population in India is suffering from varicose vein disease these days. Women suffer from this disease four times more than men.

The leg vein normally contains multiple valves which helps the blood flow in direction of the heart. When these valves are damaged, blood starts pooling in the legs causing swelling of the legs, aching pain, fatigue, skin discolouration, itching, varicosities and if not treated it may develops non-healing ulcers in leg. Ultimately, the person is forced to lead a disabled life.
Fashion is playing havoc among women. High-heeled sandals and tight belts are significant contributors to the development of varicose veins, as these items obstruct the normal flow of blood in the veins. In addition people like computer professionals, receptionists, security guards, traffic policemen, salesmen are the worst sufferers of varicose veins.

Diagnosis of varicose veins is done by general examination and ultrasound Doppler study

Till now various treatment options available for varicose veins were elevating the legs, Compression Stockings, Sclerotherapy for short segment disease. Vein Stripping Surgery is a major surgery where the recurrence rate is too high, causes ugly scar in legs and 2-3 weeks needed for recovery.

Treating without surgery by Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is the latest and most effective, patient friendly treatment of varicose vein without surgery using Multipolar RFA machine. Under color Doppler ultrasound vision, a radiofrequency catheter is inserted into the abnormal vein and the vessel treated with radio-energy, resulting is closure of the involved vein.

The interventional radiologist (are uniquely skilled in using the vascular system to deliver targeted treatments throughout the body without surgery) accesses the abnormal saphenous vein just above or below the knee percutaneously through a small cannula. Ablation uses a thin, flexible tube called a catheter with tiny electrodes at the tip of the catheter, which heat the walls of the varicose vein, and collapses the abnormal veins.

Advantages of Treatment with RFA

Unlike traditional surgical treatment, this procedure needs no general anesthesia, no surgical scar on skin, done as an outpatient (OPD) procedure, or just one day hospital stay, no blood loss or risk of blood transfusion and makes for faster recovery. Also it is cheaper than traditional surgery and the recurrence rate is too low as compared to surgery.

Treating fibroids in 20 minute with uterine artery embolization
   FIGHTING FIBROIDS WITHOUT SURGERY

Chances are you know someone who has battled uterine fibroids – abnormal, benign growths within the uterus that can cause painful, heavy prolonged menstrual bleeding with clots, frequency of urination, constipation and lower back pain. After all, more then 25% of women in India between the ages of 25 and 50 suffer from fibroids.

Until a few decades ago, women with fibroids faced with only one treatment option – hysterectomy. But thanks to advanced technology, less radical option is now available, the noninvasive, uterus-saving uterine artery embolization.

DO YOU HAVE FIBROIDS?

“Sometimes I see patients in my FIBROID CLINIC who have no other symptoms other than the fact that they can’t fit into their clothes even though they’ve been exercising like a fanatic,” says Dr. Pradeep Muley, Head of Interventional Radiology at the Batra Hospital & Medical Research center, New Delhi and founder of India’s 1st Fibroid Club. He adds, “Fibroids can cause the uterus to swell, but it’s easy to mistake that for a little weight gain.”

NON-SURGICAL APPROACH

If you have fibroids, do not fear. You do not have to have a hysterectomy or undergo a similarly scary surgery. “40% percent of hysterectomies are due to fibroids, and most are unnecessary”. So many women do not have to lose their uterus,” says Dr. Muley. Rather, you can opt for uterine artery embolization, a relatively new procedure that injects microscopic plastic particles into the uterine arteries via a catheter, blocking the flow of blood to the fibroids, causing them to shrink.

Today more than several hundred thousand women worldwide have found relief with uterine artery embolization. “The entire procedure takes about 20 minutes, but the results can last a lifetime,” says Dr. Muley.

RECOVERY TIME

Recovery time after uterine artery embolization is minimal. “We require patients to spend one night in the hospital for observation,” says Dr. Muley. An added bonus is that there are no wounds or ugly surgical scars, nor removal OF UTERUS since the incision in your upper thigh is as small as a freckle.

SUCCESS RATE

The Fibroid Treatment has an extremely high success rate with uterine artery embolization. Dr. Muley explains, “Over 97% of our patients have immediate relief from heavy bleeding, 94% experience up to 80-95% fibroid shrinkage, and 33% are able to successfully conceive following the procedure.”

OTHER FIBROID TREATMENT OPTION: LAPAROSCOPIC MYOMECTOMY

Myomectomy is the surgical removal of fibroids from the wall of uterus. Although laparoscopic, it is a major surgery with higher reoccurrence rate. Dr. Muley stresses looking in to embolization first. “With myomectomy you face complications like blood loss, uterine scarring, and a 30% chance of regrowth,” he says. “
