YOGA AND PRANAYAM---FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON’T BELIEVE Intellectual people never accept any thing blindly. If you accept anything blindly then, you are not an intellectual. I know you are an intellectual. So, if somebody will tell you to believe in the miracle of Yoga and Pranayam, you will not believe. I am not such a fool to tell you to believe in miracles. But, sometimes miracles do happen and if you don’t take benefit of them, then you are not wise, if not a fool. I myself did not believe in miracles. So, I decided to test and verify the truth by doing yoga and pranayam myself. A SIMPLE TEST: I want to share with you what I did to test the effects of Pranayam. First of all, I listened to the program of Swami Ramdev Jee for several days on Astha channel in the morning. I don’t exactly recollect now, how I began to do it regularly. I can say only this that in the beginning, I did not do them correctly. Even today I don’t do all the Asanas and pranayams being taught by Swami Jee. I do KAPALBHANTY AND ANULOMA-VILOMA only along with some easy sukshma vyayamas. But, it did miracle to me. I had been suffering from chronic gastro-intestinal problems for several years and modern medicines used to provide some relief for sometimes, but it used to reoccur as soon as I stop medication. Had I not practiced it myself, I won’t have believed in the efficacy of yoga and pranayams. Today, I am a disbeliever tuned believer in pranayams.

Author : trustworthyCAP PRANAYAMA is a Sanskrit word: PRAN+ A+ AYAMA meaning: (wikipedia) Lengthening the breath. Pran means “life”. As the breath sustains the “Pran” it has been named so. yamam gives the meanings: restrain, stopping, control. These activities are found while practicing it.
PRANAYAMAM discriminated into four types by Bhagvan Patanjali: BAHYA KUMBHAKA, ABHAYANTARA KUMBHAKA, KEVALA KUMBHAKA AND AKEVALA KUMBHAKA. These types are recognized in the practice according to nature of pauses (in inhale and exhale) availed while it is practiced.
8 types have been distinguished in “HATHA-PRATIPIKA, a famous book on Hatha Yoga.
Quick inhaling and exhaling without stop is called "Kapal Bhati" which is nowadays takes place in one of Ayurvedic exercises so now it has listed in the treatment category. Anulom and Bilom are named to inhales and exhales.
These are used to clear our physical body prior to the stage of meditation.
Your systematic practice would tend a sound health and clear mentals.

Helo Alexia,
Welcome to the forum postings with a good trend.
Yoga focuses upon developing a healthy mind & body, and on attaining self-awareness.
The various practices and disciplines of yoga are simple for practice to everyone, no matter what their culture, religion they follow.
Everyone should promptly notice that YOGA IS NOT WORSHIPPING.
YOGA CONTAINS METHOD OF PRACTICES
TO STRENGTHEN THE PHYSICAL BODY
AS WELL AS MENTAL STAMINA.
The philosophy of yoga, which originated in ancient India, includes the practical disciplines of yoga asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (concentration) and dhyana (meditation).
Yoga practice also involves developing awareness on a universal and personal level through the yamas and niyamas, a series of ethics and disciplines intended to cultivate living in harmony with others and in oneness with our true selves.
Everyone in this world is wrongly thinking that yoga belongs to Hindus and it is religious rites. All races in this world, all religions in this world, all ages of human can practice it as it is not particular about it. |
