We spend ALL our lives using words. Yet most of us never bother 2 look up a dictionary until we come across a word we never heard/read b4. Words are almost MAGIC created by man. So if interested in knowing more pls respond.

NEUROLOGY: mental store of words/concepts -The characteristics of mental lexicon 1). Semantic information: what is the word’s meaning? 2). Syntactic information: how are words combined to form a sentence? 3) The representation in vision-based form 4). The representation of sound-based forms 5). There is a store of information about words in the brain 6). The contents of the mental lexicon are no fixed: words can be forgotten and new words can be learned 7). More frequently used words are accessed more quickly
When someone is speaking to you, they do not separate each word from the next with a pause, like the spaces between written words on a page, yet your brain can still recognize each word individually. Truly remarkable

TANTRA: Words are said to have a delusive nature (Mahamaya Matrika) because the word itself, although it may contain a reference to an object is often surrounded by clusters or Kulas of lesser Shaktis, These lesser Shaktis themselves indicate other references to objects. These Shaktis include what are called 'associations of thought', clusters of sense impressions, connected perhaps by links which are unique to an individual.

VEDANTA: Very detailed - especially Advaita and Cognition.

The discussion is really beautiful. Now i thought of teachings of Ramana mahirishi. You are telling abt the mental store and mental lexicon. Where is it  in our body, is it in head, or heart or where ?? If we start to thoroughly investigate where the thought originates, and if we go deeper and deeper, the experience is beautiful.

"...mental store and mental lexicon. Where is it in our body,??" NEUROLOGICALLY, the "mental lexicon" is explained in my "Topic: SIN-via lowest OR highest resistance neuron netwrk". Neurologically, our "thought processes" can be explained by references to the "synapses" that store "bits" of "information" in the same manner as stored in a computer. An attempt is made on this Forum to explain the difference between the Eastern concept of The MIND and the Western concept of mind (almost same as God & god). Ramana says "Mind is a wonderful force inherent in the Self. That which arises in this body as 'I' is the mind. When the subtle mind emerges through the brain and the senses, the gross names and forms are cognized". Neurology simply refers to MENTAL as an aspect of the BRAIN & avoids the word MIND. We in India (including Ramana) even claim the "heart" to be part of the Brain-Mind setup. Back to Ramana -Ramana is said 2b a silent Teacher. A devotee wrote "his most direct and profound teaching was transmitted in silence."

Relating neurology 2 Tantra/Vedanta is futile BUT COGNITION is a function of words &ALSO OF SILENCE. What is cognized in SILENCE is not the same as COGNITION FROM WORDS-BUT WORDS CAN BE HEARD & READ IN SILENCE. "meditating" involves "MIND", "BRAIN" & mental processes.
