Mrs. James’s regency lounge Oakland Park and other matters
Regular readers will no doubt be aware that the Reverend gentleman Thomas James has an extraordinary wife. Mrs. James is in his opinion one of the foremost cooks of the age. Unfortunately Mrs. James is one of the worst cook’s in the world. I have this on good authority as my Chinese servant Knee-Hii informs me and he is in the know for he has had first hand experience with the meals that Mrs. James prepares.
The short end of this whole long story is this coming shortly to this zone will be another regency production called “Reverend James” this story will describe in detail the events and miss adventures of the wonderful Reverend James and his good wife the bad cook.
In other matter the subplots that were left unfinished in Oakland Park have been done so for a specific reason I would at a future undetermined date like to take up the story of young Thomas Sterley as his adventures at the Cape. There will of course be a sequel to Oakland Park were we will once more make the acquaintance of all the members of that delightful and extended family.
When I embarked upon the tales of the regency I was ill prepared and there were gaps in my education upon this matter however I have learned some thing new every day. Writing in the style of the regency I must tell you takes a great deal of effort for I find myself time and again slipping into modernisms which would quite wreck the story so it is type, type, type and retype until it is molded and suitable for the word regency
UI trust this will set your fears at ease upon the matter.
As a writer I also some times need to take a break from a set of characters to keep them fresh and alive for if I was to continue day after day week after week and month after month upon the same characters they would indeed become old and mediocre and this I have vowed I will not do to my creations.
I would like to end by thanking those devoted readers who have turned to this page daily for a bit of reading pleasure and I end with the promises that I will continue to endeavor to bring to you stories of interest and the highest quality
