Eat out without gaining weight!
The greatest fact of life - if it tastes good, it has to be fattening! How else do you explain chocolates, cheese, rasgullas being so amazingly full of calories?
But there are ways to battle the calorie syndrome and yet have finger licking good food. Came across these gorgeous tips on shaaditimes.com. So, follow these and enjoy the good life with good food!
1) Do NOT miss out on breakfast of lunch the day you intend to eat out or order in. If you think skipping breakfast or lunch will cut down on calories to make up for the extra calories of the restaurant food, think again. Skipping meals will only make you more hungry and have you eating more than usual.
Before heading out, you should eat a small salad or have a glass of fruit or vegetable juice so that you will eat less in the restaurant.
2) Walk to the restaurant if it's nearby. If it is situated in a mall, you could do a couple of rounds of the mall before eating. Take a walk after dinner to burn off some of the extra calories.
3) Go for healthy options in restaurants, like wheat breads instead of white breads, clear soups instead of thick broths, sautéed main courses instead of fried ones, and even high protein dishes. If it is not mentioned specifically on the menu, do ask the head waiter for healthier choices of your favourite dishes.
4) Order dishes with lower fat content and that are lesser in calories. For example, tandoori items in a Mughlai restaurant, steamed dishes and sautéed foods at Chinese restaurants, wheat pizzas and pasta with vinaigrette dressings at Italian places, and South Indian fare (idli, dosa, upma etc) when it comes to fast food.
5) No food like junk food? Eat healthy by ordering child portions. Opt for the kid's meal if availbale. You'll end up eating only half the portion that you would generally eat and your taste buds would get the fix that they so desperately seek.
6) For the sweet tooth, go for fruit salads, ice lollies and low-fat desserts. Gelatos of late are a great way with being 99 % fat free and extremely yummy! If possible, share the dessert with the others at your table so that you end up eating less of it.
7) So you don't like wasting food? Remember, better wasted in the plate than in stomach! Don't over eat just to finish off... It'll give you bad tummy. You can get it packed and give it to a beggar or even to your dog.
