THE LOOMING FOOD CRISIS
The head of the World Bank has warned that rocketing food prices could push 100 million people in developing countries deeper into poverty. Figures show food prices overall have increased by 83 percent in the last three years, with a particularly sharp rise in the last three months.
"Hundreds of thousands of people will starve. Children will suffer from bad nutrition with the consequences lasting all their lives and moreover, the consequences will be such that disruption may occur in the economic environment," he told delegates.
