Lonely Hearts : The movie (A Review)

Just finished watching Lonely Hearts – a Dark movie of cold blooded murders,,
Starring J. Travolta , Salma Hayek , Jared Leto, James Gandolfini, it has a subdued performance by J. Travolta, who plays the cop (Elmer C. Robinson) investigating a trail of seemingly unconnected murders across the country. Incidentally the director is the grand son of Travolta’s character. A cop who likes to do his job and takes his duties seriously, resulting in family problems as he is never there for his family. He believes that the string of killings has a common link in the personals of “The Lonely Hearts Section” of the newspapers,,,with War Widows looking out for love and companionship, making them the ideal prey for money swindlers. Travolta is a driven man and the story is how he gets his prey Martha Beck and Raymond Martinez Fernandez, a murderous pair known as the "Lonely Hearts Killers" who lured their victims through these personal advts. What the retain value of the movie has are the performances and you will remember one Dialogue “Bitch wont die…” it is chilling,, Hayek has portrayed a totally remorseless widow whose actions are driven by her intense love for Leto’s character. Tough some critics say that Hayek has portrayed a Femme Fatale as opposed to the real Martha Beck who was over weight (223 kgs) at the time of the trial. But Hayek does what she does best.. acting and has depicted the character perfectly. She is the dominant partner in the relationship with Leto’s character and is the decision maker among the two, more violent and more intense than Leto’s character. Go watch the movie it’s a fantastic movie.. understandably the director has given more meat to Travolta’s character and Travolta has done justice to the role,

Trivia : The “Honey moon killers” was another movie made in 1970, based on the same story. The killers were finally executed in 1951 at the Sing Sing prison.
