POLITICALLY CORRECT - What does it mean - (part I)

Something that started out as a sort of moral common sense and expression of good intention, like saying 'black person' instead of 'god-damn cotton-pickin' nigger'.
However, the whole thing got utterly out of hand in the early 90s to the point where a short person is vertically challenged, and the fat one is horizontally challenged. Now calling a person 'disabled' is not acceptable and considered to be an abusive term. 'Ethnic people' (who ISN'T ethnic!?) is the acceptable term for tribals and aboriginals. Those with abnormal sexual preferences are now persons having 'different sexual orientation',
It gets even more ridiculouser and ridiculouser each day

What began as a liberal assault on injustice has come to denote, not for the first time, a new form of injustice. In the 18th century they were the philosophes of the Enlightenment and in the 19th century the Apostles of science. Today they are the Politically Correct.

Its chief characteristic is that it calls for the politicisation of life. It encourages political direction of all departments from, say, children’s fiction to judicial judgments.

No profession is exempt. All must meet a political test - of correct thinking and progress. Lawyers, accountants, doctors, scientists, novelists, journalists and businessmen must all pass it.

Liberals have often suffered at the hands of dogmatists who have wanted to reduce their open-mindedness and civility to a formal or rigid code or blue-print

I perceive it as an encroachment on the life of common man by the politician.

I think I have not been able to communicate my
point very well.

It is the hijacking of a kindly and human thought for exploitation of mankind
 that I object too.

Thanks to those who commented on this.... their fair and human emotions are an obstacle in identifying with a cynical interpretation.

More information is available on net......just google it.

The presentation and subsequent drama w.r.t. Women's Bill in Raajya Sabhaa demonstrate the double facedness of politicans and their political correctness
.

moreover the implementers who were the part of communism believed that the only way for communism to advance was to help (or force, if necessary) Western Civilization to destroy itself. and they could achieve this best by chipping away at the rights of those annoying western individuals.

One way to do that is to change their speech and thought patterns by spreading the idea that vocalizing your beliefs is disrespectful to others and must be avoided to make up for past inequities and injustices. And, call it something that sounds positive: “Political Correctness.”

srian, this blog of urs fascinated me to the extent that i did try to find some info on net..i could read that the concept of POlitical Corrctness (PC) is not a new thing, it has its roots in communism.

Its belief was in the individual, that an individual could develop valid ideas. At the root of communism was the theory that all valid ideas come from the effect of the social group of the masses. The individual is worthless.

rem acu tetigisti (you have touched the matter with a needle)

The big question remains .....WHY?
why not merry christmas/happy diwali/ Id mubarak.

Why do we have to put this facade?

is it as the common person wanted it or is it thurst upon him?

Moreover, is the attitude/will their to support
this language or is it just pampering to the dictates.

Sorry, if the anguish spills over.
