Mother's Day - ties that bind and tag...

Read sweet Mother's Day entries here...

You guys will get something soon! Mujhe zara dimaag ki batti jalaane do.

Vikram's blog post
RockerofFropper' entry

Happie Mother's Day!! Thought of doing something teeny weeny here. Let's all share something sweet about our mommies. Some random questions I worked out. You guys can add whatever you want! Tag all your friends by sharing. Let's see how big it grows!

Here's also the deal... I'll pick up a few good entries and they win... umm... Ma ka ashirwad! Hehe. Ok, ok... If people are feeling brave enough, they can sumdi mein message me their address and I will send a nice postcard and if I'm feeling generous maybe some knick knack. No, I'm neither rich nor sweet... just that I plan to buy something from the NGO I support; there are these super talented kids who make beautiful things and cards. My little way of helping them. I’ll probably send those across.

Or if you have reservations after seeing my bhayanak, stalker-like chehra, you can give me your e-mail id and I will send a nice e-card. If you don’t want to give your mail id, then I'll write a blog post, put a nice photo and write a verse or something and dedicate it to you. Wonder if anything of this is incentive enough... or JUST DO IT FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR MOM!!

You can keep it the way you like - sentimental or funny. Whatever you do, DO NOT WRITE SHAYARIS!! After you have written, please send me a link. I’ll put it in my post. Umm… let’s do this till Monday evening.

I'm not making my post mushy. I've never been mushy with my mommy. She'll think I'm running away from home.

MOMMY TRIVIA

The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of my mom…
Patience. It’s really quite a wonder that she hasn’t thrown me out yet. If I were my mom, I’d have thrown me out years ago!

My mom affectionately calls me…
Chhoti. Hehehehe. Never mind the fact that I do no justice to the name, neither in terms of age nor volume.

The worst beating / scolding I ever got from my mom...
Oh, once I jokingly said something to my cousin who is some 13 years older to me. I got such a pasting and I was made to apologize and promise I wouldn’t misbehave. Then in school I had flunked a unit test or something. I used to hate studying.

One thing I have hidden from my mom...
I had an accident some years ago. I was getting back from work at 1.15 am with a colleague. Our autorickshaw rammed into a divider and did a turtle. Thankfully there was no bleeding or anything. But I hurt my neck and back quite badly and was in a lotta pain for 15 days. She still doesn’t know about it.

My mom’s catchphrases or takia kalaam…
(These are all for me) Hatt nalaek (nalayak said in Punjabi accent). Sab ke sab nishaachar hain. Phir aadhi raat ko aayegi? Baal toh banaa. Bandd karo yeh karkaata (I think it means cacophony. Her sentiments about rock and my violin alike).

Some funny incident(s) with my mom...
My mom has a habit of looking down while walking. Once she was walking back home from the station, when she realized a man was blocking her way. Without looking up she moved away but the man came and stood in front of her again. She got bugged and almost pushed him away, when luckily she looked up… It was my dad. He used to tease her about it for the longest time.

Once we were visiting my naani… Mom went to the ticket window of the station and asked for tickets for Vile Parle. The booking guy looked at her and said, “Ghoom jayiye. Rickshaw stand wahan hai.” We were at Vile Parle station.

My mom and I have a common habit of misplacing our glasses and we both hunt for them like blind women. Once mommy couldn’t remember where she kept them and guess where she was looking… inside the fridge!

Some days back, she wanted to water the tulsi plant and I was in her way. So jokingly I said, ‘nahin hatungi…’ She walks past me but not before saying, ‘Chal, tu toh waise hi hateli hai!’ I was speechless. Ek toh PJ, upar se bhai language mein!

The last time mom got angry with me…
Just last week when I told her again that I don’t intend to get married because shaadi nark ka dwaar hai.

My mom's the best because...
She has still not thrown me out of the house and she didn’t freak out on seeing my tattoo. Also she never realizes when I come home drunk *wink*

The most cherished gift I have from mom…
Self dependence, forgiving nature, a writer’s genes, Hindi… also a gold chain. The only golden article I like; otherwise I find gold old and boring people’s metal.

What else?
My mother used to recognize James Hetfield at one point. She used to say, “yeh toh wo hai na… Muttallica ka singer…” And she doesn’t think Jim Morrison is hot. Sigh. I say HOT and she says, ‘Hatt’.

What would I be doing for Mother's Day?
Umm... I'll buy my mommy something. She doesn't like eating out, so no ordering food or taking her out for dinner. she doesn't like going to movies also. i'll do her a favour and not cook for her!

i liked the the bit about your purchasing cards from a NGO you are supporting which supports children. A noble way to celebrate the mom's day.

My mother is no moe. Never loved her that much when she was alive. She was with my brother during last days. I was living away. I still remember how she used to rejoice seeing me whenever i visited her saying "My son has come"(En paiyan vandhirukkan - in tamil). I miss her badly now and love her than before.I actually wept on the day next to the EARTH HOUR observed recently(I also put up a blog on that)

This is worth a blog.
