South2495 said: Controversy refuses to leave the Bangalore Royal Challengers. First, team owner Vijay Mallya sacked the team's chief executive Charu Sharma. Now, Mallya has taken potshots at team captain Rahul Dravid. Mallya was quoted by a national daily as saying, “My biggest mistake was to abstain from the selection of the team. Though, I watch a lot of cricket whenever possible, I am no cricket expert at the end of the day.” “I had a separate list of players that I wanted. But since Dravid is such an iconic player I trusted his judgment. And Charu Sharma also backed him. After seeing the final list, my friends told me it looked like a Test team. But I backed both of them thinking that they advised me properly,” Mallya added. Meanwhile, Sharma also broke his silence after an early exit from the Bangalore IPL team. “What place do I have among men of so much experience, to select a team or select an 11? September 03, '08 |

He is a very negative attitude fellow. Thanks Selectors that he has been droped from ODI. A Marathan runner is not the right choice for 100mt. Mr. Mallaia also responsible for the wrong choice May 31, '08 |

TheCancerian64 said: He definitely is the one to be blamed for Royal Challengers' poor show in IPL. A captain has to take the responsibility for the team. He has been a good player and maybe he still can play well in Tests but 20-20 is not his cup of tea. If we look at Shane Warne's team, it was written-off in the beggining of the tournament. But it is the managerial ability of the captain that has taken this team of underdogs to such heights. But just a look at Rahul Dravid in this tournament, his body language on the field suggests his mindset. We should not forget here that these are the same players who had declined to play for the 20-20 World Cup. If now they are part of 20-20 is just because of the money involved. At least this is the message that has gone to cricket loving public. May 24, '08 |
