No sponsors... Auction outfits - Pathetic state of Hockey...!!!

Can any other news be so disappointing and disgusting than this to a true sports lover in this country...?

KLIK to read the news...

"Leading hockey players like Rajpal Singh, Prabhjot Singh and Deepak Thakur have decided to auction the apparel worn by them during major championships to raise funds for a tournament."
Please read the story in full...!!!
Look at the attitude of the media reporting the story...!!! Throughout, it sounds like it is happening in some Timbuktu and they are just covering it for the sake of it. If the same happened to Cricket, (me ducking under the table to avoid bricks breaking my head coming from super-enthusiastic Indeeyan Cricket Phans...) Media would be jumping through the roof and cry cry and cry...

Now that Mallaya 'mauled' and Shah Rook Khan 'routed' out of IPL in pathetic way, will they come to their senses, touch their feet on ground and look what they could do to salvage all those lost pride (if they had any...) towards their pseudo-passion towards sports..???

How many crores they washed down the drain in pursuit of IPL, under the cover of sponsoring the greatest sport of this nation, namely Cricket?

It would just take a few Lakhs to sponsor a Hockey tournament in India and it woudn't harm them, anybody would agree, having witnessed the extravaganza they displayed during the initial stages of IPL.

And the Billionaire Media Barons could easily sponsor the game, bring it to limelight and make it a hit... They have the  power of mass communication and the Financial strength.

All they are lacking is will and commitment to promote a sport to the forefront...

Will They...????

Hockey needs good managers. Mr k p s gill should just leave. The game cannot be popular till it starts at school level. Have you seen any school promoting it? Same is the case with Soccer. The game is popular world over and in India its just the Bengalis playing it. Are Indians too weak and lazy to play a real game like football or hockey? TRPs in football are very high, when the standard is good. All it needs is the governing bodies to work well and the rest will fall in place. Thanks for sharing , !

shocking but reality. media is also biased. they understand business. why media should waste their time for hockey or any other sports? they can utilise that time for astrological analysis of dhoni or sachin so that they can generate more money.

You have aptly pointed the plight of Hockey! But the irony of the fact is that now-a-days, every parent wants his offspring to become a world class cricketer. Is is truly the love for the game or is it for the fame and money (which anybody can see is enormous - anything between 20 to 40 lacs/annum, whether you play or not). Added to this is the latest IPL auctions. I only hope the eyes of our Sports Minister will open to this naked fact!! Thanks for the article. Kudos to you yaar!!

I WOULD LIKE YOU TO RECALL THOSE DAYS OF GLORY AND THE TIMES WHEN HOCKEY WAS JUST TAKING OFF TO REGAIN THE LOST GLORY .YES I MEAN THOSE DAYS WHEN DHANRAJ PILLAI AND HIS BOYS WON THE WORLD CUP . AFTER THAT THE REASONS BEST KNOWN TO ALL OF YOU, BECAUSE OF THE WHIMS AND FANCIES OF A PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL IT WENT DOWN AND DOWN ONLY. SO THE NEED OF HOUR IS A CLEAN AND IMPARTIAL ADMINISTRATION , AND THE LOST GLORY WILL BE REGAINED. THE BEST EXAMPLE IS THE RECENT GOOD PERFORMANCE OF OUR TEAM IN THE AJLAN SHAH TOURNAMENT. IF YOU PERFORM WELL YOU WILL NOT HAVE MUCH PROBLEMS IN GETTIING SPONSORS !! BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS TO PUT HIS MONEY ON A LOSING HORSE !!

Hockey should be encouraged as it is our national game and most popular in Punjab however even I doubt that it would attract any sponsors to serve this purpose…it as almost lost its ground now. Such concerns do hurt and sound paradoxical and saddening even however that is usually the accepted fate of things in our country….we are too much driven by money and power game….

Hawkeye, You made absolutely perfect sense in your arguement. Of course, its their money, they have the right to spend it. we dont have any right to tell them how to.
But then, let them not 'preach', for the sake of publicity, that they were the saviours of the sport and games for the Nation. And by releasing one movie on Hockey, SRK stood on the roof and proclaimed that he had reinvented hockey and until then nobody knew what 'field hockey' was...
Sure they can 'do business'... and let them just do that. Not to pose as 'pseudo-saviors' of the nation's sports and games...

Again, we are not instructing or demanding them to 'sponsor' hockey. we are ust trying to suggest them 'if they did, the game would revive and they have all the money and influence to do it'.
Or we may still be asking for the moon... May be..

Thanks for the perspective Hawkeye...
