Khauf

Ve jab bhee aate hein mere gaanv
kaanpane lagate hein bechaare vraksha
Tahalate hein bechainee mein
Nadee, jameen aur pahaad
Bematalab jhidakate hein phool yoon hee
Tayyaar ho jaate hein kandhe
Peir kaa bojh uthaane ko
Meree aavaaj par ikatthe ho jaate the
Saikadon peir
Us Peepal ke neeche
Vah Peepal bhee us samay
Tod detaa hai apanee dincharyaa
Chhodta hai din-dahade carbon di oxide

Mujhe talaash hai bheed mein se
Do haath do peiron kee
Jo binaa chaupaayaa bane
Chal sake saath mere
Dekhanaa chaahataa hoon main
Apanee aas ko lete hue saans
Apane hee jeevan mein.

- C.M.Upadhyay “Shoonya Aakaankshee”

 Translation

THE SILENT HORROR

Trees dread apprehensive
Rivers meander timidly
Streams twist in terror
Panicky go mountains
Shaking land violently
flowers shoo away the
caressing butterflies
wonder what happens
when ever they come
to my village instantly
kissing their knees
and bending double
get prepared to shoulder
weight of the legs
the peapal under which
millions assembled
at my behest
emits CO2 against its nature
in the broad day light

in the crowd my eyes search
for two hands and two legs
unwilling to be a beast
who would accompany me
with no fear and walk along
I wish to see my dreams n
desires taking breath
before they close finally.

( Translated by JYOTI D. SARMA 'maalolan' )

The urgency of the concept and the empathy of the poet have been well brought out; should stir the minds of the reader.

Well, You plead and we read
Sure, it is all today's need;
I say, let us all pay heed
And, show it very much in deed.
