 Demand for a Gorkhaland!

As if rioting by Gujjars to be recognized as ST wasn't enough, now there is rioting and bandh for a separate state - Gorkhaland. Do these guys really not understand the losses being incurred because of all this rioting? 10,000 tourists have had to leave Darjeeling and Duars have made a hasty retreat on the first day itself of indefinite strike. Mercifully they are  being a bit soft on tourists and providing 50 % discount on stay and also arranging for transportation if they want to leave Darjeeling.

But this rioting is really like holding the govt to ransom to have their demands met. There are so many castes, sub castes in India if everyone demands a separate state, there will be more states than houses all over India. Why do they want a separate state? Is it for autonomy because they are being sidelined?

On a lighter note, in school we had 25 states and their capital to remember... there are 28 already. God knows how many more will there be two generations later!

it's a sad thing to see...may be this is how we like to use the gift of democracy- uproot railway tracks, vandalize shops, and attack in mobs! what's worse is that the two recent instances of such violence (Gujjar-Gorkha) being in the states famous for tourism, India's international image will take a beating...

As long as politicians play to the vote banks and as long as reservation on the basis of caste and creed are allowed to dominate Indian society, divisions and fissures will continue to occur.

I wish the Gujjars, the Gorkhas, the Naxals and all like minded people start a second "Quit India' movement. The people would be a better off if all these Goddamn politicians quit India.
