GIRL IN WHITE --- THE BRIGHT DESTINY
It was a Sunday morning .There was no hurry for Akash to go anywhere . The earliest meeting scheduled for the deparmental heads of his plant with the MD was at 1130.He had all the time to sit outside in the lawn and have a cup of tea leisurely with his wife.
It was the house of their dream .Both he and his wife were involved fullyfrom the design till the finish . They had put all their care and love for each other in this house. A spaceous lawn with beautiful flowers around it . Gardening was a passion for his wife .She had all the different shades of roses , marigold , and what not. That was a winter morning and he was sitting outside amidst the colourful flowers and enjoying the warmth of the winter sun . His wife was in the kitchen preparing tea for both of them .
Akash was lost in the thoughts . God had been very kind to him . A beautiful and loving wife , two equally loving daughters , a home and most of all the care and the warmth of his wife which has been the major binding force in the family . He laid back on the chair with his head resting on his palms behind his head . A plane with the faint droning sound was flying high in the sky . And with this sound Akash reminisced the deafening sound of a plane, landing on the airstrip of Dum Dum Airport, Kolkata .
Yeah ! His dream , his life , his aspirations his everything Lily was coming back from the States . Since the day he got this information , he was busy preparing for the D'Day. He was posted in Ranchi. He had bought a car specially for this occasion . Those were the days when except Ambassador and Fiat you didnt have any other make available. He got one second hand Ambassador in a good condition. Got it painted and made it as shining as a new one . He wanted to give her a surprise. He was thrilled with the idea of travelling alone with her in the car .
Just one day before her arrival he reached Kolkata in his car . Stayed overnight at a friends place . The arrival of the flight was early in the morning . He reached the airport one hour before the scheduled time . Thank God the plane was to land at the right time . But he was getting very impatient . He had waited for her for three long years but these few hours were as if it was going to be a life time of waiting.
And there was the announcement flight no. IC 401 from Delhi will land shortly . He went straight to the visitors lounge and to the terrace. He didnt want to miss anything. He had even borrowed a binocular from his friend . Far ahead, from the horizon he could see the plane coming out towards the landing area . The size was getting bigger and bigger and then it touched the runway. Akash missed a heart beat . He could not believe she was in this plane and will be with him in a few minutes . The plane gradually halted. The gangway was taken to the outlet door , the door was opened and he could see the passengers coming out.
My God where is she ? one after the other passengers were coming out but she was still not among them . AND there she was , with that straight and confident stance , a hand bag hanging on her shoulders , and an overcoat in her right hand she was coming down the steps of the Gangway . He could see her clearly through the binoculars. She looked a bit tired . As she stepped down the gangway and stood on the tarmac , she looked up as if she was looking for someone. Akash frantically waved his hands , and she could see him ! She also waved her hands in reply ! Oh my God !Oh MY God am I dreaming ? She is here at last . Yeah his Lily had arrived !!!!!
He ran down the terrace to the exit point . He had to wait for another long long half hour before he could see Lily pushing the luggage trolley and coming out ! He could not believe his eyes ! At long last she is back to him , not to go again .
She stopped beside him , and looked at him , his eyes met hers . The tears in the eyes of both of them spoke volumes . The happiness of meeting again , the pain of being away for so long , the bright twinkle of the future . They didnt say anything . Akash took the trolley from her and they both started walking together towards the car !
"Akash how were you ?" this was the first thing he heard from her after long long three years !
Akash could not hold himself any more and he started crying and sobing like a child .Lily put her hands around his shoulders and squeezed him close to her .
"I know Akash, I know , do u think I was better off ? Thatswhy I have come back ! " And then she also could not stop herself . They both squeezed each other close and walked to the car crying like two babies . By the time they reached the car they had cried their heart out and felt quite relieved .
"NIce car, my favourite colour . Whose car Akash ?"
He had not told her about the car .
"Of course ours Lily !! "
"Really ? Oh what a surprise .Means we will go to Ranchi in this car together ? "
"Yeh Lily ! After long three years dont we need some time together ? Now we will be together everywhere , all the journeys we will take together . I cant endure your being away any more !! "
"Yeah Akash me too !!" She was so happy about it and knew how happy Akash will be to drive the car with her . Long driving was a passion with him. He loved driving. And what better journey than this ? To bring back her beloved home ?
Akash put the luggage in the dicky . they entered the car and settled themselves inside.
"Akash ! " said Lily nearly shouting..
"Yeah Lily ?"
"You know what ? "
"What Lily ?"
"My hands are itching . For long three years I have not been able to slap you !!! "
"Ha Ha Ha !! You are still the same !!" and he brought his face close to her.
She slapped both his cheeks one after the other very softly and then kissed quickly the spots where she had slapped .
Akash took her palms in his hand , kissed them ,.
"Did it hurt Lily ? " They looked at each other and after a long long time they started laughing together .
Akash turned the ignition and the car roared back to life for another journey in Akash and Lily's life but this time it was not to separate but to be together for life !!
The slap of Lily was a bit hard it seems, Akash's reminiscence got a jolt and he came back to the reality , started rubbing his cheeks with a smile on his face. By that time his wife , of course who else other than Lily , had come down with the tray having two steaming cup of tea.
" Hey what makes you smile ?" Lily asked Akash .
"Nothing Lily "said Akash ,he was quite emotional from the reminiscence,
,"Lily I love you so much " Held her in his arms , hugged her close and kissed her again and again !!
"Have you gone mad ? "
"Yeah Lily this was one journey I took alone , if you had been with me you would also have done the same with me !! Ha Ha Ha !! "
Even now Lily has not been able to find out about the journey which Akash took alone !!!!!!!
Though all the other journeys they are always taking together in their life !!!!!
