 Lost and Found

Lost and Found
I am writing this piece as I still believe that a few good and honest people exist in India. Every day we have instances of people losing / getting robbed of their possessions while traveling. In this instance a close relative of mine lost his mobile and got it back.
Last Sunday my brother in law and his two daughters planned to visit an ashram around forty kilometers from our house. They wanted me to accompany them and I reluctantly agreed as this would I could not visit my mother.
While returning from the Ashram by public transport my brother in law handed over his mobile to his elder daughter for safe keeping. She promptly put the mobile in an open bag she was carrying. On the way she also made a phone call to her mother in Pune. We got off the bus and took another bus to our destination.
While in the second bus my brother in law enquired about his mobile. Though his daughter searched a number of times ahe could not locate the mobile. She said that she put in her bag but it was not there now. Her younger sister also searched her bag but of no avail. My brother in law searched his pockets but could not find it. After frantic searching for another ten minutes it was agreed that the mobile was lost. The girl who had put the mobile in her bag got very tense and was at the point of tears. Her father assured her that it was Ok and he could afford to buy another mobile.
By this time we reached out destination and we got out of the bus. My daughter rang up the lost mobile number and she said that it was ringing and no one was picking up the phone. After a few minutes she reported the bad news that the person having the mobile was cutting off the line.
We did not lose hope and my daughter kept ringing. Finally to our great relief someone answered the phone. My daughter suddenly said she wanted a piece of paper. We gave a piece of paper to may daughter. The lady who answered the call gave the address from where the mobile could be picked up. She said that her father had found the mobile in a bus, probably in the first bus we traveled. The suspense was over and we all heaved a sigh of relief. We advised the girl who lost the mobile to be calmer in future. She required the advice as she was planning to go to US in a month’s time.
The next day my brother in law collected the mobile from the address given. He was given a warm welcome by the finder and treated like an honored guest.
In the evening when I met my brother in law I asked him whether he gave some money / presents to the finder of his mobile. He said no the finder was quite rich and he only gave some Cadbury’s chocolate to some of the children in the house.
All is well that ends well. Hope we have more good people like this in the world.

Nice incident ...it drives home the point that the widening difference between haves and havenots and flashing of wealth is causing the increase in crimes. The so called rich and self sufficient person did not feel the need to keep another person's mobile but if it had gone to the hands of a havenot it would be a different story....but whom to blame...in the Land of Ram we have only a few haves and many havenots....do not know when and which will normalise this....till then such incidences are the best hope....thanks for sharing

Hats off to that person. Many think that rich don't commit such felony. yes they do. Whether rich or poor or middle class, its the ethics and values distinguish people. It's a nice experience that started well, and ended well. I also find the father of the girl mature and wise in handling this issue.
