 The spiritual path of Love

Love is essential to life. Without love, our lives seem lonely, senseless and incomplete. We all agree that we need some form of love in our lives. It may be the simple love between two friends or the unconditional love a mother has for her child. It may be the deep love of our partner.

But why is it so difficult to have a fulfilling, loving relationship? Why are there so many unhappy marriages? Why are so many people changing from partner to partner in endless pursuit of 'real' love? Is there a Soul Mate that is perfect for us?

We enter into a new relationship full of excitement and with the expectation of abundant future happiness together.

Falling in love raises so many thrilling emotions in us: We are filled with good intentions; we feel bliss, harmony, generosity, enthusiasm and gratitude. But we may also become very fearful. We fear that now that we have found this precious love, we may lose it. We start to behave with suspicion and jealousy. We may begin to control and manipulate our partner, because of this great fear of losing them. We feel out of control. Our ego starts taking control of us! What are we doing? We are self-destructing this wonderful chance of being with our loving partner!

Stop! It is time to take control back from these destructive emotions, before our fear will destroy our precious loving relationship.

To do this we need to connect with our spiritual self. Because it is our soul that knows what we truly need out of a relationship. People that are spiritually mature have no fear of losing love. They have total faith that the love they give out will be returned to them.

But our ego above all wants to have its selfish needs fulfilled. It demands and demands and nags at us. Our soul, in contrast, seeks a higher level of fulfilment, which may involve being unselfish, putting the other's needs before one's own - not an easy thing to do! It is only through our soul that we are able to connect to true unconditional love.

The Universe (maybe God) brings certain people together for a reason. You may call it karmic connection. Two Souls seek each other out so that both can learn, advance and share love. We are drawn to each other for our souls spiritual growth. That is why it is necessary that both partners work to build up the spiritual side of their relationship.

To achieve this, we must forget our egos and instead concentrate on strengthening the qualities of unselfish love, compassion and kindness. Of course, this will take much practice and many failed attempts.

But the most difficult relationships are the ones that allow us to grow. We learn from experience - hopefully we also learn not to repeat mistakes! It is true that we learn more from crisis and pain than from joy and success.

In a spiritual relationship, jealousy and suspicion do not exist. There is total trust; complete devotion. This is the kind of union that we should be aiming to reach. For our happiness... for our souls.

Nice post.
The basis of Hindu marriage is essentially a spritual relationship. It is however attained by a rare couple.
