 INDEPENDENCE DAY -A POSITIVE CELEBRATION

Dear friends,

I am uploading this after the successful Independence Day implementation of the programme for this Glorious day. Today I organised and participated in a tree planting programme. I also prepared and distributed a self-prepared pamphlet explaining global warminng and the need for planting trees to combat it.

Trees are nature's potent weapon against global warming. Trees inhale Carbon-di-oxide( CO2) and expel Oxygen(O2) .Human just do the reverse -they inhale Oxygen and exhale carbon-di-oxide.

Greenhouse houses - Chloroflouro carbons(CFCs) emitted from refrigerant and air-conditioners, carbon-di-oxide emittede due to fuel burning in motor vehicles, houses and industries,Nitrous oxide(N2O) generated by agricultural and industrial activities, Methane(CH4) emanating due to coal, natural gas and petroleum product production and transportation-all produc e green house effect.  The light rays received from the sun has to be radiated back to space to avoid warming of earth. But even as the light rays in visible spectrum is radiated back to space, the invisible infra-red rays are retained by the green house gases' greenhouse effect causing global warming.

I already put up a brief on global warming in my EARTH HOUR blog calling for switch-off of electricity between 8 to 9 P.M. on March29 th ,2008. A large number of fropper friends read thorugh this blog and participated in the global switch-off event against global warming.

What I did today is an extension of global warming combat by planting trees on this noble day of our independence.

I am not posting this to gloat over as an achivement. I, just like many other Indians, feel that India ,as it stands, today is not the one dreamt of when we won independence.

Just as I have put in my WELCOME SHOWERS Poem posted earlier here- India appears to be a superpower as I cruise along the four-lane highway wonder- with poverty, penury, rape , theft and murder all beaten into oblivion- just on the highway only. Outside of highway it is the much same-with poverty, penury, rape, theft and murder. Highway is like the carpet where dirt and filth all swept underneath it with cleaning still undone. Highway illusion masks the poverty et al- from the sight temporarily.

It is apt to bring back to your memory my blog on Hunger cafe in mumbai where i regretfully noted that when India boasts of the likes of Lakshmi mittal, Mukesh and Anil ambanis joining the list richest in the world there are still people who are looking for the next meal.

Yes, where is the education to enlighten all and the efforts to empower them to find all the amenities themselves.

Though these questions remain it is prudent for an educated and thinking lot like me to take the first step of doing something for the welfare of the society and country in whatever rightful manner they deem fit- by taking up educating the poor , implementing employment generation schemes,  involving in key areas that need attention -organic farming, making available organic food to all as a better nutrition source, making the people eat right diet to stay healthy by eudcating them, by using alternative energy vehicles and appliances in our life.

I have taken this first step and  shall continue going ahead with a voluntary organisation for science to address all the key areas that need attention as enumerated above as stated in my 50 th blog for luanching a voluntary organisation for science

This is again no means not a self-adulatory piece.  This is just for pointing out the direction in which I am moving which I think many should follow instead of finding fault with our sorry state-of-affairs in our country. Positive strides will really beat the sorry state into oblivion.

Let us not be wishers, preachers but be doers. India needs lots of doers.

Now I am taking upon myself to answer a vexatious question- Who should lead India at this hour?

Successful businessman who make money and amassed wealth. NO? No for the simple reason many of them grew into riches by raising more than throusand crores of public money through public issues. They are interested in furthering their interest as business men. Take the instance of Reliance retail encountering stiff resistance and facing closure as it acted against the interest of the petty shop wallas who are dependent on their small shops for a living.

Do you know?-the petroluem oil refineries who after setting up plants using public issue money are exporting their output to foreign countries where demand in India is not fully met. A total ban on the oil exports is needed to cater to the local demand and stabilise the prices here.

I am not seeking to degrade the likes of global billionaires from India. I admire their business acumen. Let them be just business men where they will continue to amass wealth. Why stop them by offering them to chance to rule. They will not be humanistic in their appraoch.

Then what is my choice- a philoanthropic scientist with equal knowledge of economics- such a person only knows what is required for the country. Mind you we owe a lot to Science and Technology. There is not even a single human being, house, office and industrial house who/which is not using science and technology produced gadgets and appliances in day to day life.

  Science rules supreme. Yes, Amen!

Let a philoanthropic Scientist rule the country(Not me! as iam more interested in service rather than captaincy). But a scientist at the helm or not, I vow to dedicate myself to the nation to serve my brethren through science. Bless me.

Hail Bharath! Let it's citizens all be winners!

Thanks for reading. Your valuable, impartial and independent comments are welcome.

sounds cool buddy, in the last blog when you counter remarked on my comment that you would like to be doer rather than just a thinker, i was sure you had certain wonderful plans in your mind..and this blog reflects that perfectly. very correct when u say, instead of just creating hue and cry on the sad state of affairs, we ought to take action for improvisation....liked ur attitude..
