 Procedure and Result

MATHEMATICS – the most dreadful subject. I hated it the most when I was in School. By the time I realized that it is the most scoring one it was too late and I had none to teach me all over again. The canning I received on my fingers for not following proper step by step procedure to arrive at the answer was so harsh that very thought of it makes my fingers numb for a while even now. As a child my mind revolted against and cried why the hell the procedure was so important when I too arrived at the same answer some xyz arrived and who had been given 10/10 where as I had been punished. This was a big question then and it is a big question to me even now but not on mathematical sum but a different issue.
Procedure - what is it actually, a procedure is a specification of series of actions, acts or operations which have to be executed in the same manner in order to always obtain the same result in the same circumstances. Less precisely speaking, this word can indicate a sequence of activities, tasks, steps, decisions, calculations and processes, that when undertaken in the sequence laid down A Procedure encapsulates a task composed of Steps (and possibly, Sub Steps).
Often it is important to assure that certain conditions exist before a procedure is performed, and that the outcome of the procedure matches the expected results. In other words a traditional or established way of doing things is procedure.
Now would this set system of procedure imply even for worship of Supreme. For instance, the story of Ajamil in Srimad Bhagavatam 6.1 describes a dishonest man who on his deathbed lay thinking of his youngest son called Narayana (a name of Krishna), and hence inadvertently he found liberation. Ajamil chanted the Lord's name without any offense. Although he was calling the name of his son, due to its being holy in nature and without envy to Lord, it is referred as namabhas. Ajamil committed innumerable sins, but he never committed offenses to Vishnu and Vaishnavas. Millions of sins can by destroyed by namabhas. Similarly the Sthalapurana of Sri Kalahasthi of Chittoor district says an ardent devotee of Lord shiva named Tinna who actually belonged to a tribal group while wandering for a hunt in Bilwaka grove (where the temple of Sri Kalahasthishwara is now situated) he stumbled upon the Shiva Linga and seeing the Lord covered with dust and dry leaves in such a remote place was stunned. He cleaned up the Shivalinga with waters he brought from River Swarnamukhi close by and wondered that the Lord must be hungry for long. He hunted for small animals and offered raw meat to him and water brought in ‘donas’ of leaves. The days went by and one day the lord wanted to test his worship and did not accept his offer for long. Tinna pleaded for long but all his efforts went futile. Tinna saw tears streaming down the eyes of Lord Shiva. Agonized he fetched  leaves of some medicinal plants and crushed them and applied the juice to Lords eyes. But this time instead of tears blood started streaming down his eyes. Tinna did not know what to do, and he took an arrow out of his quill, gouged his eyeball, and placed it on the Lord's eye. Lord Siva had blood streaming down the other eye too. Tinna unhesitatingly gouged his other eyeball and placed on the Lord's eye, guiding himself with the help of right foot placed on the linga. In joy, he exclaimed, "O Lord! From now on, your vision is my vision!" Pleased by his devotion the divine couple appeared immediately and he was granted liberation i.e. mukthi. Tinna is later known as Bhaktha Kannappa. He knew no procedures or chanting of any mantras or any thing such. But the devotion and service with a pure heart was all that he had. May be if one follows step by step procedures and arrives at right conclusions he may get 10/10 but though steps are not followed and answer is arrived one may get say 4/10 or if steps are followed but answer is not arrived then also one may get another 4 or 5 out of ten. But the effort cannot go totally fruitless. Do you agree? Thanks for reading it patiently, and I would welcome you to rectify me where I err.

Jyotiji , Your Mathematical post clubbed with spiritual knowledge is appealing. If you excuse me , Sri Kalahasti is in Chittoor District and not in Kurnool. It is Srisailam in Kurnool District. Thanks for sharing.

most of us ignore to look for n honestly follow tedious operative procedures.

case-situations cited here happened strangely suddenly .these coincidences dont follow the rules of pre-set goals let alone process.

mathematics is not such a dreaded subject. but one answer can have many ways as long as it leads to the answer. Regarding kannappa it is sacrifice and evotion lauded by Shiva though it seemed a blasphemy act.

Really you are genius my friend. Discriminating the 'Procedure & result' you have travelled from mathematics to spiritual knowledge. In this journey you are not deviated from your object, in my opinion, it's the beauty of this post.

Thanks for sharing it jyoti.
