Ban on sale of junk food near schools and colleges?

A season for bans in terms of health issues, it seems! After the Center issued a smoking ban ( ) in public places, after the World Health Day on Sunday, Karnatak government is thinking of revoking the ban on sale of junk food in 100-metres radius of schools and colleges. This would include food like burgers, pizzas, soft drinks, etc.

Why is a ban the answer to all the problems? I know the harms of junk food, especially on kids' health. But college students are old enough to understand this. And even if near a school or college, the restaurants / shops have other customers too. So, why ban and kill the seller's business and inconvenience other customers? They can implement a rule like the paan beedi shop, don't sell it to kids.

Or better still educate kids about the harms. What's the point if they don't buy it from anywhere near the school / college but go to McDonald's or Pizza Hut beyond those 100 metres? But, majorly it's the parents' responsibility when it comes to school kids. Mothers themselves send Maggi noodles, biscuits in tiffin. And I wonder what would be stocked in school and college canteen to begin with... Hmmm.

such bans cant be effective. no way. secondly, arent roadside bhajiyas, papdi chat, samosas equally harmful?...........the only answer to all these subjects is lots of education....nowadays both parents work, grandparents are separate, so maggi, kurkure, and fast foods are the best options for kids.....

No way, Kiddy You cant stop em
My kids are still young. I try this. I make them eat as much healthy food as I can, at home itself. Particularly before taking them out. It works.

You have a valid point....
