DEATH OF AN INNOCENCE...ON ACCOUNT OF DRINKING AND DRIVING

Alcohol related car accidents kill someone every 31 minutes and non fetality injures someone every 11 minutes. But there are effective measures that can be taken to prevent injuries and death from impaired driving. Every year in USA 16.000 or so die in alcohol related car crashes,representing 39% of traffic related deaths. 
Male drivers involved in a fatal motor vehicle crashes are almost twice as likely as female drivers. 
People driving should take preventive measures and can save thousand of lives If you are at the party and drinking you should not be driving . Get a cab or let someone drive you home. 
The lisence of drunk driver should be promptly suspended . There should be sobriety check points. 
What prompted me to write about drinking and driving is this poem I came across and it almost brought tears into my eyes. I would like to share it with you

I went to a party mom
I remembered what you said,
You told me not to drink ,mom
So I drank soda instead mom,

I really felt proud inside mom,
The way you said I would 
I didn't drink and drive mom,
Even though the others said I should

I know I did the right thing mom,
I know you are always right 
Now the party is finally ending mom 
As every one is driving out of sight

As I got into my car mom 
I know I would get home in one piece 
Because of the way you raised me 
So responsible and sweet 

I started to drive away mom 
But as I pulled out into the road 
The other car didn't see me mom, 
And hit me like a LoAD 

I lay there on the pavement mom 
i hear the police man say 
"The other guy is drunk" mom,
Now I am the one who will pay 

I am lying here dying mom 
I wish you would get here soon 
How could this happen to me mom 
I hear the medic say
I will die in a short time 

I just wanted to tell you mom 
I swear, I didn't drink 
It was the others mom 
The others did drink

He was at the same party as I 
The only difference is , he drank 
And I am going to die 

Why do people drink mom 
It can ruin your whole life 
I am feeling sharp pains now 
pains just like a knife 

The guy who hit me is walking mom 
And I dont think it is fair 
I am lying here dying 
And all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry mom 
Tell daddy to be brave 
And when I go to heaven mom
Put "Daddy's girl" on my grave 

Some one should have told him mom 
Not to drink and drive 
If only they had told him mom
I would still be alive 

My breath is getting shorter mom 
I am becoming very scared
Please don't cry for me mom
When I needed you 
You were always there for me

Before I say Good bye 
I tell you I didn't drink & drive
SO WHY AM I THE ONE TO DIE
