 Mesmerising Madurai... Photo Blog

This is in continuation of my previous blog on Vacation in Madurai

The Picture Below is Vandiyur Teppa-Kulam. Meaning Float-Pond.
The Pond is normally Full with fresh water. The central island has a small temple, pavilions at 4 corners for relaxing and enjoying the beautiful veiw around. Built in middle of 16th Century, the tank is one of the biggest in South India.

The pond will be filled with water and during festival season, Gods from Meenakhi temple, will be placed on a beautifully decorated Barge, and will be pulled around the pond in the night. This festival is konwn as Teppa - ThiruVizha, (meaning Float-Festival). You will find similar Float-ponds in almost all major temples in South India.

Buffaloes enjoying the weather and lush grass

St.Mary's Church.
One of the oldest Catholic Church in India, built by Portugese, depicts the gothic style church architecture that was prevalent during those days. This church is located on the East Veli Street, near the Palace street which leads to the Mahal. If you are going to the Thirumalai Naicker Mahal, you will have to pass by this Church.

Aanai Malai -Elephant-hill

This Hillock lies on the northern outskirts of Madurai, at one angle it resembles a gigantic elephant lazily lying down.

Kodaikkanal in Madurai:
This picture I shot while in the car. In the background, the pregnant crouds, trying to swallow the western mountains that house Kodaikkanal, in the forefront, irrigation channel full with fresh rain-water, the wind blowing cool and moist, coconuts trees dancing in absolute romantic atmosphere, I didn't see any reason to go abroad to enjoy such beautiful weather... it was all there, right in the middle of our own place...!!!

This is Vaigai river, running bank to bank, with fresh muddy flood waters...

Hope you enjoyed all the pictures.... For more, Please visit my photo Album
