A mind of our own? Naah!

Do you know what does not having a mind of your own mean? It means being Indian. We are like zombies; there is someone seemingly more powerful who dictates our thoughts and yes, siree, we think exactly like that! L K Advani says Muslims are our enemies, so we behave like all Muslims are out there to kill us. The media says cricket is religion, and we go into a collective reverence (King's Bull Ring excluded . Before he huffs and puffs and blows my head out). Raj Thackeray becomes the Indian version of Hitler and wants us to believe that the Northies are taking away business from the Marathi manoos and they need to be discouraged, and there is a whole lot of people who are convinced so readily.

Case in point... All these years bhaaji wala, rickshaw / taxi guys were all bhaiyya for us, regardless of whether they are from up north or Marathis. No one objected. But now Marathi rick walas so derogatorily yell 'eh bhaiyya' to a northie, even if the poor guy is just minding his own business. My friend handed money to a rick guy the other day and said, 'Lo bhaiyya', and he gives the change and says it so bitterly, 'lo bhaiyya'. Suddenly my "educated" friend has all of Raj Thackeray's hate speeches, videos and messages all over his Orkut account. Suddenly his whole profile is in Marathi.

I'm reading this novel called 'The Book Thief', which is about a girl in Nazi Germany and there is a part where a Jew makes illustrations about the Fuhrer Adolf Hitler. And the description is exactly what I think about fundamentalists. They have oratory that can hypnotise people. They don't have to personally indulge in violence, their words are enough to instigate. Something like a verbal infection. And the problem is that most people are very sincere and diligent listeners and followers. Just that they choose the wrong messiahs.

And I don't know why I'm saying all this. *Walks out. Shuts the door before leaving*

So, who do it all? whom to blame? Imagin this happening 10 or 15 years ago. It would have settled down as just another minor skirmish in few days... Its my Worst Virtual Enemy - the Media. Its them blowing every such thing out of proportion, even before its happening. They blow it up so big, that people tend to beleive its Truly Happening to them.
Its what Tolle calls Collective Psychology. You read the Monkey story CJ wrote few days ago.. Didn't you?
We are exacly like those monkeys, BELEIVING whatver being TOLD to us by the Godddamn Media...
Zombie Monkeys...!!!

Dhaval...

The mistakes mankind makes. Repeated over and over. Until zombie is the only word left to use.

It is easy to suspend judgment and allow someone else to take decisions for you... to form your opinion for you. Then you can blame them for your voilition in suspending your conciousness.

I'd rather jump in the river. But then you and I dont make stampedes happen. We just get crushed under the hooves.

Cheers babe... my dental bill is attaining monumental proportions. Just warning you. Dont blame me afterwards. Bol deti hoon...!!!

ps. of course there is room for fundamentalists in a sane society!

a sane society only makes the possibilty of fundamentalism a probability unlike the insanity that makes it certain now!

the 'need' for a messiah is the key indicator really of how your own your mind is.

This is all a mind game dear friend..your observations are dead right. Unless we understand ourselves, we don't raise above the ordinary bunch. Better to be individualistic than to follow the cookedness of our own mentality..let's straighten up and face this life.

Common sense takes a walk when instigated in the name of region and religion. Politicians are grt at playing mind games, their words ignite the fire and the rest is done by the aam aadmi, while they sit and watch. They will tell people exactly what they want to hear, add afew religious quotes...and we have the right ingredients for a mayhem.

Hi Dhaval,

You are absolutely correct in your observations..

There is just no place for fundamentalists in a sane society..

And we have too many of them..

The lack of education and insight are major issues plagueing our society..

We need a revolution..

Nice Post..

Cheers
