My brother's debut gig with his band Revolver!
Finally after being in the jamming stage for the last couple of years, my brother Divyakumar's band Revolver debuted on Nov 7 at a competition at Exuberance 08, Halloween's festival. Hehehehe. Quite apt I think. Revolver was first to go on stage, after a sound check. The gig lasted only 20 mins, but they were quite good! And I don't say this just because it is my brother's band. Oh, my brother is the rhythm guitarist for the band.
Revolver played 5 songs in the alloted 20 mins. They kickstarted with their original track called Liberate, then played Red Hot Chili Peppers' Storm in a teacup, Pearl Jam's Alive. Their lead guitarist Nikhil aka Soul Stripper owned in Alive! Check out the guitar solo. And he has thick, long hair which covered his face most part of the show. Later he confessed that he was so nervous that his face was sweating like a pig, so he chose to keep it covered with his hair. Up next was Anarchy in Bombay, their version of Megadeth's Anarchy in the USA. Revolver ended the set list with another OC Monster, which is my fav from the list they played. Oh, they have one more OC called Abandon which I heard yesterday. It's quite good too.
Lead vocalist Manas introduced the band and Divya as 'the toughest member of the band.' My brother can really be a stubborn, obstinate ass sometimes... actually make it most of the times.
My mom and little Pari also came for the gig. Pari's ears were filled with cotton swabs and she was there because she insisted on seeing her mama's show. So, this was her debut rockshow as the audience, on her birthday eve! Yaaaay. Anyway, the volume was still a bit too high for her and she kept her ears closed with her fingers
in spite of the swabs. LOL.
She was so thrilled to see mama on stage and not once did her eyes drifted from the stage, while Revolver performed. As soon as the band got off, Pari was all over the place running around, trying to figure out why were some strange people headbanging and screaming. She kept going woooooo every now and then too. And she was headbanging with my sister Meenal. Hehehehe.
Divya's guitar strap broke, so he had to walk right up to the monitor and play with his one leg on it to support his heavy electric guitar, and Pari turned to me and imitated his pose. LOL. Brat!
It was quite funny to see mum. She sat in the first row looking lost... the second band was a Nu Metal band and finally mum said, "Main chalti hoon. Bahut zyada awaz hai. Yeh log to kitna shor machaa rahe hain." I couldn't stop laughing. But then she stayed put for two more bands and found the third band (other than Revolver) less nosier.
Unfortunately, I couldn't stay till the end because I had to come back to the Bombay Rock Association office for preparations of a jammin session we had organized the following day.
And, well, Revolver didn't win but when the winners were being announced, most of the audience was yelling for Revolver! In any case they just wanted to be on stage, which is why they performed, not lured by the prize. I felt really proud to see my younger brother up there on the stage doing what he does best, playing the guitar; he looked the most dashing rockstar up there, with a head band and stuff ;)
My friend Kedar also debuted on the same stage that day. Their band is called Chronic Phobia. They have a kickass of a girl bassist. You should have seen her going all crazy. They dedicated their last song, Metallica's 'Four Horsemen', to Revolver because Kedar was with Revolver for a short while and they had jammed on this track.
Sorry about the poor quality of photos. This is all there are. Sigh.
