 Tis the season to ...shiver!

But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and,
The light that you shine can be seen.

-Seal;Kiss from a Rose

Not too sure about the light and shine and all that; but the pupil of my eye does certainly dilate;  not just at the sight of snow but at the shovelling involved, the caution that needs to be exercised putting the next foot forward, the rapt concentration-more than the norm-while driving.  Here comes the season of white outs!

The first snow, worthy of mention for winter 08.  Mercifully, there is no accumulation yet.  None at all. This is the powdery kind, that just grazes the ground ever so finely.  The kind that just clings onto your hair momentarily and then melts away.  The kind that brushes off with a few delibrate swishes of the wipers on the windscreen.  The kind that beautifully merges with pine cone leaves - and with acute imagination looks like a prelit christmas tree. The kind that when the cute shitsu shakes, falls off his fur!
This - is the kind that I love much.

Look around and the mood is buoyant!  The boy with the guitar hung across him, all bundled up from head to toe.  The mom chattering away to her hyperactive kids pulling her into a store.  The early christmas shopper just leaving the store arms laden with gift wraps and of course gifts.  The crossing guard whistling some offbeat tune waving folks across the street to safety.

Wonder how long before all this changes and we get hit with that first dreaded blast..The inevitable and impending- winter storms, squalls, sleet, black ice..for the global warming has not really so much as made a dent into the freezing canadian winters-methinks.  Just as frigid as the first ever winter I experienced hereabouts!  But until then, heres me- tongue sticking out,  getting a taste of the snowflakes along with my loved ones!

The season to shiver in cold; hoping against hope tis mellower than the year before and the one before and the one before.......

I loved snow falls right from my first one...infact I like winters to hot summers... But I had a scary one in Himalayas (spiti) when I got stranded in the what was once the highest village in the world connected by road...learned the lesson that enjoy as long as you can but never take it for granted...isn't it for all the natural things around..
Loved your line about sticking the tonuge..reminds me of days when I would make a small ball (laddoo) of it and eat it..yummy I still remember the earthy smell and taste...
thanks for bringing it all back..
