It's Not About 'Being There At The Moment'!!!

It's not about 'being there at the moment'!!!

In the first of the Harry Potter series, Dumbledore makes a profound statement, which I fail to recall verbatim. It talks about a wonderful facet of friendship. I'll skip the situation, as it would take an entire blog to narrate; the thought he expresses is that it takes courage to stand up to one's enemies; but it takes an altogether different kind of courage to stand up to one's friends! How true!

Be it for a cause, or for one's convicitions, or just to drive home a point---to stand up to a close friend and make him see reason is a tall ask! However simple it might sound, it's not so; it needs depth in character and faith in the relationship(friendship) and utmost conviction in self.

Why am I harping on such a serious issue? Well, recently, I was in one of my rarest moods-------'feeling-sorry-for-myself-mood'!!! ha haaaaaaaaa All my friends stood by me; took me out; saw to it I wasn't left alone; and ensured that I continued laughing like the madcap I usually am. I was bask ing in the glory of all that attention. I was euphoric at being pampered thus. I was dangerously close to believing that a bit of heart ache was worth it when such friends are around!!! LOL

Came along this 'toughie' and whooooooooooosh-------went all my ecstacy! This wonderful friend of mine didn't coo and cuddle; didn't hug; didn't say 'oh baby, I do understand'; he just knocked some cold hard sense into my swollen skull!!! "Oh, for crying out loud, what's wrong with you? Absolutely nothing; you're fine; and when you're as right as rain, why do I have to waste time and words trying to mollycoddle you?' Oh boy! Did that bring me back to the earth with a bang!!! I'm the one who usually rams such 'gyan' into people's stubborn heads; and to think I needed someone doing the honours!!! Shows how conceited we could get at times; maybe conceited is too strong an expression; maybe it's just that we're lulled into a habit of self-belief that we're beyond the mundane and the inane!!! ha haaaaaaaaaaa

It didn't stop there. The sweetest soul he is, he brought home a few truths of life; truths that I was aware of , but somewhere in the sojourn of life, were allowed to collect dust; it just needed that firm hand of his to jerk me back to reality; force me to clear the cobwebs and read the pages again; read them in a different light; a differnt angle; a tangential dimension. It's not about 'tears or wiping them off'; it's not about being there for you; it's not about mere understanding; it's about helping you get an insight into yourself; about 'being cruel to be kind'; about helping you get a clarity of thoughts; about 'holding your hand and touching your heart'.

And in the process, he defined, (should I say redefined?) friendship; showing an entirely new facet of the most precious relationship that could change attitudes and lives. I consider myself blessed several times for the presence of such friends in my life. Do you too?

2. "Roothna"? really ? i mean how come you have so many friends who can take your "nakhras".
My friends would have kicked me for any of those things.
Its a good read and a really well written one. and you are lucky to have really wonderful friends.

secondly: Good friends dont make u just feel good, good friends try to make u good/make someone good out of you/give u a dose for ur own good.

Third: Dumbledore was referring to Neville Longbottom stopping the trio from leaving the dorms...and was zapped Petrifico totalis for his pains

Thats what happens sometimes to good friends too :-)

BUT friendship is all about that only!!? if the person do not modify in the company of friends them whe and how can he/she be??
