 Peace

If anyone were giving out prizes for ardent floor-pacers, I reckon I will be hovering around the top. Followed or perhaps preceded only by my dad.  Darn! The apple did indeed not fall far from the tree!

Pacing the floor I was, waiting for my sonny's cubs session on scouts night to end - the closing ceremony.  Walking up and down the school corridor, my gaze fell upon a display board, front of the sixth grade home room.  They are talking about PEACE.  Hmm! Wouldnt the upcoming hockey season or superbowl be more in tune with what a sixth grader can come up with?  But silly me.  These kids-their portrayal of peace- stopped me dead on my tracks, lump in my throat, misty eyed, the resultant works!  These kids definitely will never have in them to turn out to be war mongers; rest assured.

Peace-the smell of; the look of; the taste of; the touch of...the kids rattled off.

Donot recall everything verbatim but some that I do,  went thus:

The sound of Peace - is when I am at my grandparents' for dinner and the classical music plays at the background.

The smell of Peace - is the one when dad and I drive through the Mc D's and I get a whiff of the hot yummy fries and burgers.

The look of Peace - is when I see my friends' happy faces at school after the weekend.

and my favorite....

The feel of Peace - is when I wake up in the morning; it is yet another beautiful day!!!

and a wisecrack of a Peace remark from another kid;

The look of Peace  - is the face of Obama!!!!
Man, the President sure has the weight of some sixth grader's hope for a peaceful world on his shoulders.

Eleven year olds' version of peace definitely makes for an enthralling read than a seemingly wordly wise thirtysix year old...and yet..

Peace to me is the absence of - a lot of unpleasant stuff.
Absence of anxiety being the prime.  Awashed with relief - that some ominous event did NOT happen- I experience immense peace.  Absence of worry is peace to me.  Absence of panic attack is peace to me.  Absence of having to frown helpless at yet another gruesome footage on national television is peace to me.  Absence of antagonism, trouble, discord, hostility,
cold undercurrents is all peace to me.

Above all, might I add - the absence of CONFLICT, inner as well out in the world, is peace - not just to me, but for each one of us, I reckon.

PEACE!

we all strive to attain a system which is fair to all classes,

and conflict is vital for moving forward,

resolution of conflict alone sets the society on its forward march,

absence of conflict will stagnate the society.
