 The Ramp

Another cold dawn…
Sleeping in the aisles
At a construction site…

She pulls out of the jute rug,
She exposes the child
Stretches her torso, yawns and covers the child,
She walks to wash herself and clean.

When she returns and counts her dimes,
Walks down the pavement shop.
She wraps the bread kept for the child
And walks up the aisles of her life

She gathers the child.
And wraps her world…
As she prepares to walk
The makeshift ramp…

The beauty of a laborer’s wife
No questions only answers
And answers to questions
That beats the heart below.

I stare through my Ray-ban sight…..
Her walk on the ramp
With the clutter of steel and rumble of gravel,
And the child that plays below

The beauty of a laborer’s wife
No questions only answers
And answers to the questions
That beats the heart below

Very lucid and lurid narration of the solemn life of a labourer's wife ,who too is one , working on the site ,living in a makeshift ramp with apple of her eyes ,the only child and how she loves and cares about it!!!She works with the clutter of steel amidst the rumble of gravel" whole day just to keeep her child away from hunger ,her world which she clutches and wraps !!!
A touchy poem stirring the emotions deep down "beating down the heart below" at the diaphragm, where we feel pain and anxiety !!
The poem brings to life everything that springs from the ramp ,with magnificent overtones of empathy towards the hapless !!!!
Beautiuflly rendered !! But the title defies the theme , revolving around the agonising life of a mother, who is more than a wife !!!
