-----Back in the Days of Water Guns and Dummy Bullets----!

-------Back in the days of water guns and dummy bullets------!

News 1: Blr Police picked up 101 youngsters on Sunday morning and retained all of them under custody for three days, after which, on producing the bail order and amount, they were released. They have been reported to have been in a ‘rave’ party, the verdict being that the arrested indulged in drugs, obscene dancing and bingeing!

All the evidence they could muster was a meager number of 48 beeer bottles and 3 vodka bottles! Reason enough to jail over a hundred people for three days? !!!

News 2: Blr Police caned students of Bhagwan Mahavir Jain College for celebrating festival of colours and some of them were taken to the nearest police station! The cops’ only contention was that the Holi Revellers were creating public nuisance on a public road!

Wah! What a proud nation we are today! With law and order being followed to the ‘T’, with such meticulous details! We live in a country where women are being molested by the Ram Senas and Mutaliks for heinous crimes like wearing ‘noodle straps’ and ‘spaghetti tops’, and where students are ‘handled’ by the police ‘lathi’ for serious offenses like ‘playing holy’ and ‘partying on weekends’! We ought to offer prayers everyday for being protected under such law-abiding officers! God has indeed bestowed us with plenty!

Oh well! The entire police academy must be on a ‘picnic spree’ I guess; just letting their hair (caps) down and taking it easy! They are probably taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane, to ‘those unforgettable days’ of water guns and dummy bullets! How else could we account for such demonstration of law enforcement, while they turn a blind eye at ‘errant politicians’, allow terrorists the satisfaction of a successfully accomplished 26/11 and are oblivious of the naxalites who are rampant at large!

What’s going wrong? Why don’t they just pull up their socks and get going with the ‘real time’ criminals, instead of feeling smugly satisfied at playing ‘cops and robbers’ with the kids in the block! If they want to play ‘low end games’, even then, there isn’t a dearth of petty crimes! There is more than a 4-option multiple choice! There is a wide range from the ‘atrocious’ auto drivers to the ‘tourist cheaters’, in every city across the country!

The dailies and magazines have grown bolder, and freedom of press at least has gained a lot of ground these days. Newspapers like the Mirror, (Bangalore, Mumabi etc), don’t hesitate to flash dark and dirty secrets of people in power, be they politicians or IAS/IPS officers; but again, these remain cover stories! No more, no less! What’s the use of all the hue and cry made by the papers and the public? Hardly any noticeable change is talking place in the national scenario; habits seem to have come to stay; and settled comfortably!

Well, can’t complain much though, can we? The little kids of these men in khaki, must be a happy lot, with their dads joining them at play, with their toy guns and plastic revolvers! And that makes one sector of the citizens of the country a delighted class! After all, the kids of today, are the citizens of tomorrow, aren’t they? Thank God for small mercies!

P S: Breaking News: Today’s headlines: A cop turned molester! A cop got all ‘touchy-feely’ on a girl near Garuda Mall, Blr. When she objected, he flashed his ID at her!

After all, the age range of ‘kids’ has always been ambiguous; so he probably thought she was just another kid!

whats going wrong is that we have elected a government that thinks wearing spaghetti tops is a bigger crime (and requires more serious policing) than murder. after all psghetti's are modern and western and murder has been around in india for a few thousand years.

Is Tiananmen square that far off in our future, with the police oppressing people in broad daylight, with full backing from the politicians?
