 On a date...first day-first show!

A movie, that too, first day – first show, followed by lunch in a fine dining place, well, it was the theme of our date! Well, not a great movie buff, so watching a movie at 10:00 AM on a working day was a bit awkward! But I had taken time off from work, and had rescheduled all my appointments including an overseas conference call…all for this date!

My date wanted nothing less than the first day-first show, and I had willingly agreed. So, here we were, at the PVR Cinemas at the Forum Mall to watch “Kambakkth Ishq”, this week’s release featuring Akki and Bebo!

I am not going to critique the movie; that’s not the intent of the blog!

My date and I were among a handful of minority, a few ‘seniors’ who had decided to enjoy life! The rest of the crowd mostly consisted of college students, carefree and so full of life! It was nice to be among the “Gen – X” crowd!

Right from the Fanta commercials before the movie all through the movie the comments made by some of these quick witted kids were, so enjoyable! It in deed added to the ambience! As soon as the intermission approached, I was among the few early birds off the block…for two reasons:

One…your mind can absorb only as much as your seat can endure! And as you get over the hill, the plumbing gets a bit stressed! You get my drift?

Two…before the popcorns run out you need to run to the counter!

I was thrilled when I was the first to return with a large bucket of popcorns and two cups of Pepsi in my row! The kids seated next to us even exclaimed, “Uncle is pretty cool”. I winked at them in return!

Akki, Bebo and rest of the cast including Sylvester Stallone kept us entertained through the rest of the movie! As the movie was coming to an end, once again we were among the first few off the block…this time to ensure that we get the right table inside Sahib Sindh Sultan, a fine dining restaurant in the same mall! We didn’t have a reservation!

We managed to get a table of our choice. Designed like a luxury train coach of the erstwhile British Raj, the restaurant had a great ambience, good food, and reasonable selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks! The service was good too!

We decided against alcoholic drinks, as it was too early and I had to go back to work!

We talked as we ate, recollecting from the time we met, and things we did together! The problem with talking interesting things while eating is that you never know how much you eat! In a fine dining restaurant, it affects the general area around your abdomen and below…by adding some quick calories, and depleting your wallet equally rapidly!

But then, it was a date, and you don’t count your pennies while on a date…do you?

And more importantly, the date provided an opportunity to be yourself, and connect…with some intensity, that you had not felt before!

The date in deed invigorated both of us, my date and I and we are now looking forward to more of the same!

Why not?

After seventeen years of marriage, such dates with one’s spouse do bring back the memories of the days of courting! And they help to cut through the layers of ‘unromantic and yet necessary chores’ that crowd everyday life! To be ‘ourselves’, to look at life the way wide eyed young lovers would do!

Yes….I dated my wife! And, we enjoyed it!!
