When   I  got  down  the Howrah Bombay  Express  at  a  small  station  Bhilainagar , very  early  in the  morning , the  sky  was  crimson  red  , the  sun  was  just  above  the  horizon  with  its  full   glory  , signalling  the  day  break !
It  was    a  dawn  of  a  very bright  day  , and  the  dawn  of my   new  life  too !

I  got  a  rickshaw  , kept  my  meagre  belongings  , a  suitcase   and  a  hold-all   on  it  , and  headed    towards   Hostel  3  , my  new  abode for  the  next   one  and  a half  years . It  was   the   start   of  my  journey    towards   a  completely   new  world , new  experiences  . meeting  new   people , new  friends    and  a   journey    towards   my  life  , my    goal  , my aspirations   , a  journey   of  hope   and  despair  , agony  and ecstasy  !!

It  was  the  month  of  March  , 1972  that  I  joined  SAIL , Bhilai  as  a   Graduate  Engineer . My  first  and  last  job . The  place  , the  job  , the  people  there , the  work  culture   everything  was  so conducive  to  my  liking  , I  stuck to  that place  till  I  took  my  voluntary   retirement in the year  2001 . 

With  me   another   200  Engineers   joined too  , and  one  of  them  was   my     friend   Jagan  Mohan  Allam . It  was  just  like  falling  in  love  at  first sight  !  It  was  liking  each  other   at  the  first shake  of  hands  ! Very  soft  spoken  , man  of  few  words   but  very  firm   and   decisive  . 

We  had  so many   common interests . Our rooms  were  also  nearby .Being    a  Telugu ,   what  Hindi  he  spoke ! Without  any accent  , rather  his  diction  of  HIndi  was   even  better  than  mine .   

After   the  training  was  over   we  were   posted  to  our  respective  departments  . Our  meetings  were  not  that  frequent   , but  on Saturdays  we  did  make  it  a  point  to   have  a   great   evening  ! 

Somehow  , he  didnt   like  the  plant job . His  inclination  was  towards  academic  pursuits. He  kept  on applying  to  different  American  Universities  and  one  day   he  got  a  call for  Post  Graduate  course  in  a  reputed   American  University  !

He  left  , our   short  but   very  sweet  relationship  came  to  an  end !  For  some  time   we  were  in  touch  , but  then  I  didnt  hear  anything  from him afterwards . 

A  few   days   back  one  of  our  common  friends  from Chennai   informed   me about  the   Bhilai_GE  group being  formed  in Yahoo . I  also  joined  it  ! 

It  is  a  group  formed  by  those  who  joined  Bhilai  in 1972  .  I  also   posted  my  details    and  e-mail  address  there  . 

The  next  day   when I  opened  my e-mail  ,  was  I   overjoyed  ??  Among  the   so  many  mails  there  was  one  from  him . Yeah  from my long  lost   friend  Jagan  , got  him  down the  memory  lane  in Yahoo . After   a  lapse  of more  than  35  years   !  

Lot  of   things   have taken place  in the  lives   of  both  of  us .  Lot  of  changes  , but   there    has  been   no  change   as  yet  in one  aspect  . 

The  friendship  is   still alive   !!
