 R-A-N-G-O-L-I,,,,,!

Rangoli is an integral part of Diwali Celebrations. Rongoli is one of the most popular art forms in India where people decorates the floor using rice powder and colours, both liquid and powder. During Diwali, especially on the day of Laxmi Puja, varied colours are used to make beautiful designs in the courtyard or near the entrance to the house.

It is believed that rongoli is drawn to welcome the goddess of wealth and keep evil spirits at bay. The Diwali rangoli is a way of welcoming guests into the household. The colourful designs add vigour to this vibrant. The Rangoli images create an enchanting piece of art. The art of rangoli is known by different names in different regions such as "Rangoli" in Maharashtra & Bengal, Alpana, and Kolam in South India.

Those who are experts in art, they can sketch any image or theme without any problem and create rongoli free handed. Some draw the pattern in a paper and fill it with colours. There are some who draw the outline with chalk and fill it with papers. There are different rongoli themes such as auspicious symbols like swastic, om, mangal kalash, chakra, a lighted deepak images of god like Ganesha. Flowers trees creepers birds, elephants, dancing figures, geometric patterns such as circles, semi-circles, triangles, squares and rectangles etc.

Traditionally rice powder and the colours derived from natural dyes from barks of trees, leaves, indigo, etc. were used. Today however, synthetic dyes are used in a range of different colours. Rangoli being mainly a floor art, varied ingredients are used like as follows,, powdered colours, finely grounded rice flour turmeric glitters, natural flowers and others.

Rangolis can be given a three-dimensional art effect by applying cereals, pulses either in their natural colouring or tinted with natural dyes. They are beautiful, wonderful creations of art indeed.

I brought some good looking designs,, could easily inspire anyone to make beautiful Rangoli during this Diwali.

As the candlelight flame,
Ur life may always be happiness' claim;

As the mountain high,
U move without sigh;

like the white linen flair,
Purity is always an affair;

As sunshine creates morning glory,
fragrance fills years as flory;

with the immaculate eternal smile,
attached to u mile after mile;

All darkness is far away,
As light is on its way;

Wish all of u a very HAPPY DIWALI .....
