 9 going on 25?these new-gen-kids scare me!

i was absolutely flabbergasted the other day when my 9 year old niece pointed out some stark realities of life to me..she is one of those typical-ultra-cool-new-gen-kids who aren't easy to impress.it's interesting to see how much these lil kids observe every little detail around them.i remember how one day she had remarked, "maasi (aunt), how boring!why do you always have to use this black mascara ? i feel you have beautifullly curled, natural thick lashes...u should experiment a little with that cosmic blue mascara i saw in the maybelline mag the other day.it will really accentuate your eyes ! " i stood there in awe and all i could mutter was, "ummmm.....errrr....yea maybe.... " to sound not-so-dumb.but i gave up 'cause i knew it was no point carrying on the false facade of 'i am elder to you ,don't you try and preach me about make-up for chrissake!' and eventually ended up taking her advice on what shoes would look best with the outfit i was wearing.

it's phenomenal how much these kids are aware of stuff nowadays.and now that i look back,i realise how dumb i was! i hardly knew anything about the women's fashion scene back then.i remember how my mom would dress me up in cute frocks and shirts with my fave cartoon simpsons' graphics and look at me with almost servile adulation, love and 'awww,my cute lil baby ! ' brimming in her eyes.and i would be quite happy with it.you take my niece out for shopping and she'll never settle for anything less than a backless tank top and denim minis to go with it !

i would go ga-ga watching madhuri dixit dance when i was a kiddo and how i thought michelle pfieffer and sharon stone were so pretty and john travolta was my greek god,oh-so-cute! (ahem,pretty and cute were the words if you'll note and not 'sexy' or 'hot' ! ).and that was that.that was where my world ended.and these lil devils ! my niece is of the opinion that keira knightley should put on a lil weight and emraan hashmi should be banned from bollywood because subjecting audiences to his acting ( un-acting??!! ) is atrocious.she thinks all the bollywood actresses'  wardrobes need an over hauling.all i am thankful for is atleast she doesnt think those skimpily clad exotic specimens are hot ! thank God for small mercies !(that's my girl! lolzz)
you ever had that feeling with any kiddo you know ?( i know you had your very own dumb moment at least once !! c'mon out with it ! i can empathise ! lolzzz)

100% on the dot.. I have my niece too, so sparkingly bright, I couldn't match her wits and knowledge.
Watching today's movies with these kids around, I am hafl minded as to whether to quiet them or join them.. and eventually I end up joining them.
While my wife, and other folks at home are really scared, I AM NOT SCARED. These kids know what is what..

Almost...????

Interesting topic....won't add on the comments present here...I fully concur with them. Here's something that I'd like to add though.

We're in a revolutionary age. And every revolution has a phase of transition. This is exactly what we're passing thru for the past decade or so. Whether it ends up spoiling the generation or glorifying them depends on how well we handle the transition.

Its heartening to see that a good percentage of today's youth is well aware of and responsible towards the reality. And this is going to be a life saver for us going forward a few decades.

We need heavy reforms in a variety of fields like education, media, governance etc. but IMO, it'll all happen not so far in the future..me being the incorrigible optimist.

Anyways...wish you all the best and keep spreading your message to as many as possible. :)

i am with you on that...totally agree.i only wish that globalization ushers in a new era that has a more positive and enlightening impact on young minds rather than creating dummies outa them.

hey sangeet...u've started an interesting topic here..I guess these kids are just the products of a globalized, commercialized world that we live in- the era of multiplexes and the world wide web...while this has made the world a much smaller place, it has taken a toll on the overall standards and level of human behavior...unfortunately ppl (including kids) are getting more brand conscious- the glossy neon billboards with the perfect and prim looking model advertising some desirable product catches more of their attention...precisely, the cost that globalization is demanding from this world is- innocence. Kids have stopped behaving like kids...
