 Chak Diya Re...Shah Rukh...

Everyone on the earth knows I am a staunch hater of the so called King Khan. Not for his personal traits, but his traits and stunts on the screen. I have written a few blogs on why I hate him and drawn plenty of wrath from staunch lovers of the Bollywood star.

Since I arrived India, I have been watching the ads Chak De India. Initially even before giving attention to it, thinking that it must be one of those run-of-the-mills for the so called Godly game of India – Cricket,  I used to switch channels whenever these ads came up.

Suddenly the glimpse of few hockey sticks and the white ball running along the watered turf made me sit up and take a closer look. It was hockey. My favorite game. India’s national game (supposed to be). Wow. I just pinched myself to make sure it wasn’t one of those snooze-in-the-couch nightmares. Saw the ad complete and it was just amazing. SRK as a hockey coach, promoting Indian girl’s hockey with a story line inspiring the team to go on to win the world cup… Simply outstanding.

I haven’t seen the movie yet. But, I would sure like to mention here... the supreme startdom SRK has achieved over a period of years, the International fame, the will-die-for-him kind of dedicated worshippers around this country, he has put all those into promoting the dying game of this great country. At least the media has given some attention to the movie and the game itself.

I stand up and salute the man, Shah Rukh Khan.

For what he has dared to do, that thousands of celebrities wouldn’t dare. To associate oneself with cricket is popularity multiplied. To associate with hockey is popularity diminished. (at least thats the impresssion Indian media have created so far...)

For promoting the game by involving himself and making the girls too involve in this game.

As he had said in one of the interviews, in India, in many places, people don’t even know what is field hockey. I join him in hoping that the game gets its due.

I only hope that the Goddamn shameless, ethicless, money-minded Indian media don’t delete the word hockey from the brave attempt and quietly insert word cricket and ‘sell’. Thereby killing the game, the purpose and the sincere attempt by SRK.

(Ironically, DD used the title song to propagate the same Godly game during the morning highlights of the India-England Tests… Hum Kabhee Naheen Sudharaengay..)

Thanks SRK…

Thank God...at last King liked Badusha.
Eagerly waiting to watch the film if possible.
Swades was extra-ordinary....brought him a star.
Chak de may bring another star for the actor in SRK.

King! My feelings were the same about the movie. The feeling prevailed till the movie started. I knew the movie was on hockey, but SRK Yashraj had me thinking it would be bad film. Please watch the movie, it's delightful! One of the only two movies of SRK I liked - the other one being 'Swades'.

SRK is really good (I don't believe I'm saying this); the direction is awesome and those 16 hockey playing girls are brilliant! Ya, the script is nothing new but screenplay is awesome!
