Nancy approached the old theatre.

An abandoned movie theatre.

It had been adandoned for some 10 years now.

It had remained abandoned in this old derelect part of town
that both people and commerce seemed to have forgotten.

Nancy had occasionally passed this theatre in the past.

It had been a grand old theatre in its day.

And when Nancy saw the ad in this morning's newspaper
talking about a job for a ticket seller, she assumed that they 
were re-opening the old theatre.

She had phoned the number given in the ad 123-1313 and was
informed to come in for a job interview at 11 PM that evening.

It seemed an odd time for a job interview but she was told a lot of
applicants.

So at Quarter to Eleven, she had got off the Number 66 bus that ran closest
to the theatre and set out on her way to the job interview.

"Where's Nancy?" William asked Karen.

"She's gone out for a job interview," Karen replied.

"At this time of night?" William was incredulous.

"Apparently so," Karen nodded, "to be an usherette/ticket seller at the old
Napier theatre."

"They're not thinking of re-opening that old place are they?" William asked
as he scanned the job section of the newspaper, "that's funny
I can't find a job advertised anywhere for the Napier Theatre."

And indeed William wouldn't.

For the only newspaper in town where the job was mentioned
was the one put in Nancy's mailbox in the early morning hours the day before
not by the newspaper boy (who had lain dead in an alley for some 17 hours now)
but by the stranger who now stood in the window of the office atop the Napier Theatre
and watched Nancy walk down the street towards the theatre.
