The Phantom of The Theatre Part Two
As Nancy approached the theatre, she saw written on the marquee
The Phantom of The Opera.
But no indication as to what version it was. Or what year.
As Nancy approached the Napier Theatre, she saw a man
wearing a Phantom mask standing at the door.
He was really getting into character for the performance she thought
to herself.
The man in the mask opened the door.
"Nancy?" the man asked.
"Yes," Nancy replied.
"I'm Derek," the man held out his hand.
"Derek?" Nancy looked at him, "that's Eric with a D."
The masked man's eyes looked quizzical. Then he smiled,
"Oh yes, Eric. The Phantom."
"I'm afraid I'm no Christine," Nancy laughed.
"Don't be so sure of that, my dear," the masked man laughed.
On the man's office desk upstairs was a rejection letter from a
Hollywood studio,
Dear Sir:
Sorry we are not interested in your screenplay which is a re-write of
the Phantom of the Opera story. An ending where Eric kills Christine?
The public just won't like it.
In the screams that echoed from the Napier Theatre that night, one man liked
the ending. One woman did not.
The End.
