 story of medical profession

Story of Medical profession :
Yesterday was a hectic day for us. We had ganapati ganahome pooja and we returned late thorugh Mumbai rain. Being tired I just lied down to get some sleep when the door bell rang. It was 11 p m at night and I wondered who it must be. I got dressed and opened the door. It was my neighbours wife. My husband is not feeling well will you please come and see him doctor. She was polite and said I know you have just returned home and you were sleeping, sorry for waking you up. O k I said what happened to him ? he is having indigestion, burning pain in stomach.
I went to neighbours place. He was lying down in bed and looked very tired and his daughter was anxiously watching from bedside. I asked what happened ? I went to Chennai Thursday night for urgent business meeting on Friday and I took some rasam and rice said the neighbour. What else is available in Chennai to eat I thought. I had severe burning pain in stomach area so I visited a doctor. He told me I have gastritis and gave some antacids I had momentary relief but when I returned today night to Mumbai the pain recurred. Rasam is very spicy I said and examined him. Pulse was thready and fast. Stomach pain and burning was there. Also pain in left shoulder said the neighbour, he was not getting up at all. It is 90% gastritis but let us just rule out any heart problem by taking a electro cardio gram I said wondering who will come and take his e c g at this late night. He was very busy meetings and meetings and he used to comes home very late sometimes at 12 p m from office said the neighbours wife. She was irritated, they pay grades but it is fully stressful she said. I will phone cardiologist and fix visit I said and left.
I came home and narrated to my mrs who is also a doctor. Who will come to examine and take ecg at such late night I asked. Phone dr mrs kurien ( she was my wifes g p friend) she knows all specialist around. Oh dr telang I am myself not well and sick and lying in bed dr kurien said. But at least send some specialist for e c g. Patient is a multinational manager and can afford to pay I said. I will give you phone numbers of some but I am not well so you phone she said.
First specialist I phone was not picking up phone after many tries, he goes to Lonawala for outing in weekends said my mrs and keeps his phone switched off. Oh my I said and phoned next one, some servent lifted the phone. I was sure it was some lady disguised as servent. Saab is not at home she said, I don’t know when he will return. O k I said. I was getting really worried. I was coming to end of the list. I tried last number and as usual the mobile network started to give problems and cut the phone off. Suddenly I heard a voice at other end. Yes, the doctor said. I have a patient who is having burning pain in stomach and can you visit and take a e c g I asked. Patient is a manager in multinational and doesn’t want to go to hospital for e c g. yes he said and took down the address of patient.
I will be there in half an hour he said.
My mrs was exited and watching the gate saying who is this new doctor. Then a Honda city arrived and a young doctor got down. Ah, he looks very young said the mrs but walks like a prince!
I went to neighbours house and the doctor examined and took an e c g. Please see for yourself he said and showed me e c g and alas there were unmistakable signs of heart attack. Then he took me on one side , how much I should I charge he asked. Take the usual I said. 2000 rs he told neibhours wife and added 1000 for e c g included. He pocketed money . You will have to be admitted to I C C U I will arrange a bed for you he said. after phoning hospital he said bed is booked you drive your own car I suppose, so I will take you in my car. You are not to exert at all now he said. Then he looked at me and said dr telang you took right decision and saved his life.
And the Honda city drove out of the gate with the patient.

timely help and professional help at such late hours was a blesing for him.He should be thankful to his stars to have a doctor as a neighbour.
But think of the ordinary mumbai citizen. Why the Ngos or others connected swith the medical profession start /organise a emergency service on payment basis. Our govt hospitals are apathetic to such kind of professionalism and service.
Its us tghe educated middle class who should organise through NGo for benefit of citizens, so one knows to whom to contact in a real emergency.
