Mamata Banerjee pays for Driving Nano out!

Looks like things haven't quite gone the way Mamata Banerjee expected when she did all the drama of driving the Tata Nano project out! Trinamool has done really badly in the polls, with the Left and the Congress sweeping most seats in Howrah and Jhargram. Read here Serves her right! Hope this sensibility of the masses continues and they keep not voting for the parties that obviously do not work towards the benefit of people. The best part is Mamata Banerjee saying that Trinamool Congress has done quite well in spite of election irregularities! Lolll. 2 seats, 7 seats, 8 seats... 0 seat in Behrampore is her idea of doing well! Taking cue from that, I really think MNS would face the same fate. Bombayites are really miffed with him for disappearing during the most testing times in Bombay - the terror attacks. Like a banner at the rally at Gateway of India said yesterday, 'Raj Thackeray is still missing'. It's quite interesting how MNS and Shiv Sena who claim to love Bombay so much haven't done anything yet. Oh, sorry, Shiv Sena has been out there a bit doing what they do best, criticizing the Congress... nothing constructive. At least MNS has no chance this elections. By the way, not just the party but the followers have done the volte face too. I haven't heard a word defending Raj from all the idiots who support his 'cause'. Though I'm so sure he is going to say that the slain heroes Kamte, Karkare and Salaskar were Marathi manoos!

Ram Gopal V Bad?

What's this whole brouhaha about Ram Gopal Varma going to the Taj? Don't know about anyone else but the media should be the last one to pan his action. Those idiots were there to cover and were asking styoopid questions like 'so when do you think all this would get over?' Oh, I'd say another 5 hrs 46 mins and 32 seconds to be precise... by then the terrorists would be out of their ammunition or we'd have killed them. Or better still let's go and ask the terrorists how long they plan to stick around, if they have another appointment. And then they ask Ratan Tata if he'd be compensating the families! Moron, people are dying here! And you think about the money? Besides, why would Tata compensate? It's the govt's job and the poor dear man had losses of about Rs 500 crore and to see the Taj go up in flames right in front of his eyes! And why isn't anyone talking about those retards who went there when the attacks were being carried out? Bunch of clowns taking their kids in such a dangerous area and getting shot! Sorry if I sound insensitive, but serves them right to be shot at. As it is the cops were under so much pressure to flush the terrorists out and you add to it by showing up for a darshan of the massacre? RGV at least went there after it was over, for whatever reasons he went. And really was he the only one who went there? As for all these directors criticizing RGV, just that the word got out that they shouldn't be making a film on the terror attacks, or then they'd have jumped at the opportunity of having a 'realistic' film. And just give it a couple of years or one year, someone would make a film out of it!

BJP's opportunistic volte face

Wow! On December 01, the BJP was supposed to have had a Bharat bandh, protesting against Pragya Thakur Singh's torment at the hands of ATS and so far they had been targeting ATS Chief Hemant Karkare for torturing someone as heinous as Pragya. And now that Karkare has been martyred and has become a national hero, the bandh has been canceled and Karkare is a hero for the BJP also! Perfect recipe to garner votes!!

What do I feel about the terror attacks?

I am safe physically. Though mentally and emotionally, wish i could say the same, but can't. I've never felt so insecure and helpless and frustrated. Experiences? The streets of Bombay have never felt so eerie and the air has never been this heavy with tragedy. Every car and bike seems suspicious. It hurts to see innocent Muslim people getting rounded up just because they wear a sherwani on a Friday and have a beard, while the terrorists make it to the city with RDX and AK47. It feels terrible to know that your friend has got hit with a shrapnel on the chin or that your friend's uncle and brother-in-law's friend died in the attack. Feels angering that as soon as the tragedy is over, the opportunist opposition will criticize the ruling govt for incompetence and bake their breads on the fire that's burning my city and country. The terrorists don't realize this jehad would be the undoing of their own brethren, who would only get more antagonized and targeted. They are making it worse for Islam. The city is coping the way it should be - with resilience. But then feels like being in Kashmir or Palestine or Israel, where attacks happen almost all the time and everyone is about their business because life has to go on. And guess it's a way to show the terrorists that part of their purpose is not served - even if they do terrorise us, they can't keep us down. But what do I do about my guilty conscience? While so many people are dying, it feels like a crime to even smile or have a good time.

Terrorist attacks and L K Advani won't miss an opportunity

First things first, my prayers with the victims of the blasts and terrorist attacks and prayers for all of us to be safe. L K Advani is such a freaking opportunist and a smart one at that. Bombay is under siege after the terror attacks last night that left over 100 dead and Advani in his own subtle way wants to maintain the Hindu-Muslim disharmony. Why does he have to hint at maintaining 'communal' harmony? He also says that the terror attacks are continuation of the 1993 blasts, which everyone knows was a Hindu-Muslim fight after Babri Masjid was demolished. And if that is really the case then he is responsible for all of this. His god damned Hindu Nationalist bullsh*t. Most young, well-to-do and educated Muslims are getting into terrorism to seek revenge from the tormentors and oppressors of Muslims. The BJP wants to show its greatness and antagonize Congress, so what do they do? They say that the Congress Govt has a lot to answer because it can't tackle terrorism and at the same time they say that this is not the time to dwell on that and rise above politics. Wait for the crisis to get over and they will butcher Congress. Election year hai bhai!

Child diksha - does it need to be stopped?

What would an 8-year-old know what does renunciation mean? Or what sacrifices it entails? Don't you think diksha by such young kids is like child marriage? (I wouldn't go as far as likening it to sati. No one gets killed here). They don't know what's in store for them. And when they grow up,it's too late for anything. There lie your dreams, aspirations, needs all shattered and you have no choice but to accept it. Take the case of Priyal Bagricha, who was 8 in 2004 when she took diksha. At that age we find so many things fascinating. I remember wanting to become a bus conductor when I was a kid and even a smuggler. But well, those are different things. As long as you want to give up everything for God it's alright even if you don't have a clue about what you are doing. Also at that age you are not going to think about the fact that you can't have a marital life or have to be celibate. I wonder if parents can tell kids about that. And 4 years are enough to brainwash the child into saying that she willingly took diksha. Questioning an 8 year old who could innocently let out a lot of things is quite different from questioning a 12 year old whose thoughts have been engineered. And really can one do anything about it, considering how hyper sensitive (read irrational and intolerant) people are when it comes to religion? I, for one, think people should be allowed to take diksha only after 18 or maybe 16, like the case of this new Bhavin Arunkumar Shah. One can expect him to know what he is getting into more than an 8 year old. Even then, I think they should be let to get a taste of what they are getting into. Like a trial period or what. IF they like it, let them carry on. If they don't, they can opt out. Besides, what rights do parents have to impose it on the kids? They have lived their lives, after all!

Off track and barefoot!

How often do you do something you did as a kid? Yeah, ok even if it means playing chor police... Last weekend I had gone to Lonavala for a jammin session. It was a night of playing music till morning and alcohol too. Hee hee. Anyway, I was kinda Old Monked out. At 6:30 in the morning, when you are already high on music and Old Monk, you just feel like stretching out your arms and wishing the sky would embrace you. I walked on dew drop-kissed grass. Then it hit me, something I had been wanting to do for a long time. Walk barefoot like I used to when we were kids. Back then you could be running barefoot for hours on uneven and pebbled surface but your feet didn't hurt. So, I decided to do it that morning. I stepped out alone, in an unknown place. Barely two minutes later, one dude who had come for the jammin session drove up and asked me to hop in. I thought it would be rude not to, so we went for a short drive and the guy said he was actually leaving but he saw me walking alone and saw a strange guy looking at me strangely, so he got worried. We drove a bit and found a beautiful little white temple made of marble. It feels divine to walk barefoot on cool marble. Behind the temple was a garden with benches with mushroom-shaped shades. We sat there for a bit, staring at nothing. Yeah, we made some conversation too, but that wasn't important. The hills were important. The sunrise was important. The trees were important. We went back and 10 mins after that two of my friends felt like going for a walk, so I stepped out again with them. Then they decided to sit somewhere on a kattaa and talk, but I carried on. Then another friend followed with his guitar. We walked to the temple again. Sat in the sunlight for a while talking about this and that. It was a good 15 minutes walk... barefoot. We walked more and reached a barren land, that had small yellow flower and shrubs in bits and parts... and in between the black rocks, beige land and yellow flowers was a 10-foot small hillock. We got atop that. We stared at the hills again, felt the breeze against our skin, trying to ignore the !dea signboard on a bridge. Then my friend played the guitar and sang. My other two friends joined us. One of them dozed off sitting on a rock. The other friend and I just lay there on the black rock, letting sunrays fall on us. It felt beautiful to be sun-kissed all over. Then we walked back. Those 30 minutes of barefoot walk took me right back to when we were young.

Jesus saves Shiv Sainiks!

Kudos to Thane rural police for coming up with an innovative way to punish or rather redeem the Shiv Sainiks who vandalised a Christian prayer hall and beat up the pastor. The erring Sainiks were asked to get Christians as sureties if they wanted to be freed from jail. Read the story here. So, people who were beaten up by Sainiks were sought after overnight! Obviously, since the Sainiks' sorry asses were on line, they had no choice. Nice of the Chirstian folks to go as the surety. But you never know as far as the goonda Sainiks are concerned. For all you know the Christians gave sureties out of fear, knowing that Sainiks are capable of ransacking even more had the Christians refused. I don't put it past the Sainiks to go threatening with their clarion call, 'If you refuse to help us, we will deal with you in our own style.' And just how daft and paranoid can one get? They thought the meet was a mass conversion, so like blind-folded fools they ransack without finding out the real story. And then they say there was confusion! Anyway, I think the miscreants should be made to pay a hefty compensation. Only then would they learn a lesson.

The new sports star - Saina Nehwal

Must admit that the first time I read about Saina Nehwal, the first thing that struck me was the similarity between her name and Sania Mirza's, secondly that they both play racquet games... and they are both from Hyderabad. But whoa! Look at Saina now. The young player has doing mighty well as a badminton player.

Saina has won the World Junior Championship, she is on rank 11 already, reached quarter final singles at Beijing Olympics AND she is the first Indian woman to win the Grand Prix Tournament two years ago! She also butchered World No 6 Zhu Lin in her own home turf China in the quarter final round. That is absolutely no mean feat. Read about her victory.

Read this interview with the badminton star. She is too damn sorted for an 18 year old! Just hope the pressure doesn't get to her and she doesn't go the brand endorsements way too. Or she can if she wants to but not at the cost of her game. One thing is for sure, don't think she will get overshadowed as a sportswoman... not even by cricket!
