The new Bruna-eyed girl in Salman Khan's life!

What is with Salman Khan and his firang fixation? Ok, the girls are not firang as in Western chick firangs... but except for Aishwarya Rai he has looked offshores. First it was the Pakistani babe Somy Ali, the Anglo-Indian Katrina Kaif and now apparently he can't have enough of this Brazilian hottie Bruna Abdalah. She is Arabian-Brazilian. Does it get more exotic? AND check out how hot she is!

Anyway, Bruna has been around for a bit and is a VJ with Channel V, apart from being a model. She featured in Shekhar Suman's video and also in a song in Cash.

Believably, Salman met her at a party and has since been promoting her big time because he found her very attractive. Salman has recommended her name to brother Sohail Khan for his future projects and Bruna doesn't sign any film without Salman's consent! Boy, that's a bit much.

They attend most parties together also. Of course, for Bruna alman is only a friend, philosopher and guide in Bollywood and there is nothing more to it. Yeah, yeah, this is Bollywood and this is Salman Khan we are talking about. So, yes, we believe every word you say!

53rd Annual Filmfare Awards

The 53rd Filmfare Awards seemed a little more sensible than the previous few years. The usual suspects didn't sweep away all the awards. Must be because some sensible films were made in 2007. I'm sure had there been a Karan Johar film starring SRK and Kajol, it would have won 10 awards without any thought! KJo was there in all his glory, anyway. Even if he couldn't win any award, he hosted the show! So, everyone's happy. Anyway, there were some deserving winners of the awards, while some were not! And the "Lady in Black" went to... Best Actor - Shah Rukh Khan (Chak De India) Best Actress - Kareena Kapoor (Jab We Met) Best Film - Taare Zameen Par Best Director - Aamir Khan (Taare Zameen Par) Critics' Award For Best Actor - Darsheel Safary (TZP) Critics' Award For Best Actress - Tabu (Cheeni Kum) Critics' Award For Best Film - Shimit Amin (Chak De India) Best Actor in a Supporting Role - Irrfan Khan - Life in a... Metro Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Konkana Sen Sharma - Life in a... Metro Best Lyrics - Prasoon Joshi (Maa - Taare Zameen Par) Best Playback Singer (Male) - Shaan (Jab Se Tere Naina - Saawariya) Best Playback Singer (Female) - Shreya Ghosal (Barso Re - Guru) Best Music - A. R. Rahman (Guru) Best Story - Amol Gupte (Taare Zameen Par) Best Screenplay - Anurag Basu (Life in a... Metro) Best Dialogue - Imtiaz Ali (Jab We Met) R. D. Burman Award - Monty Sharma (Saawariya) Lifetime Achievement Award - Rishi Kapoor Power Awards - Yash Chopra & Aditya Chopra. Best Debut (Male) - Ranbir Kapoor - Saawariya. Best Debut (Female) - Deepika Padukone (OSO) Sony Head N Shoulders Fresh Face of the Year Award - Deepika Padukone Best Editing - Amitabh Shukla (Chak De India) Best Choreography - Saroj Khan (Barso Re - Guru) I think Neil Nitin Mukesh deserved the debut award for Johnny Gaddar. What's with the Power Awards that went to Yash Chopra? Yeah, the usual suspects syndrome and also the ceremony was held at Yash Raj Studios. LOL. And was Irrfan Khan better in the supporting role in Metro than Aamir in TZP? Naaaah! Deepika Padukone won two awards for similar categories. A debutante IS a fresh face, obviously! There were Best Sound and Best Costumes Awards, Best Special Effects for godsakes and no Best Villain and Comic Role! That's so outright silly! People are quite high on comedy these days and Villains are equally important to make the heroes more heroic, right? *photos courtesy Indiatimes.com*

Do you prefer Ajay-Kahol or SRK-Kajol?

The posters of Ajay Devgan's directorial debut U, Me aur Hum are quite surreal, nay? I think Kajol looks drop dead gorgeous. I'm so thrilled to have her back on screen! Ajay Devgan is a great actor too and yeah they do look nice together. But somehow Ajay's image as a romantic hero doesn't gel, especially giving his lady love flowers and slow dancing and such. Then there is good news for fans who like Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol's pairing. They created magic with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and then they were sweet in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham too. Now the team of SRK, Kajol and Karan Johar is going to be back with KJo's My Name is Khan. (Wow, the movie doesn't start with a K!) Kareena was meant to do the role but now turns out that Kajol has verbally said yes to do the film! KJo says that it will be a challenge for him to give a great one after K3G, but it will surely do well. And it's not going to be a typical mushy film either. SRK plays a Muslim guy living in New York with his wife (played by Kajol) and their lives during the 9/11 attack. Looks like SRK would be better suited for U, Me aur Hum and Ajay for My Name is Khan. Let's see if Ajay-Kajol can recreate the Pyar Toh Hona Hi Tha and Ishq magic again. Whereas not much can go wrong with SRK-Kajol. The pairing is simply super! Which pairing do you guys prefer? Pic courtesy Glamsham.com

Jodha Akbar - Grand, sensible and great!

Movie name: Jodha Akbar Genre: Classics Actor/ Actresses: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Review: It's a very big challenge to make an epic film. Not only must you keep all the historical happenings in mind but to recreate that kind of grandeur, but also keep people from getting bored with plots and subplots. Director Ashutosh Gowariker does all of that with Jodha Akbar. The movie is so grand that you will actually feel like you are in Emperor Akbar's palace and in that era - the 16th Century that is! And do not get scared of the length - 3 hrs 20 minutes. Each and every minute of the film is worth watching and getting enamoured. There is drama, romance, war and not one of these has been compromised on to showcase the other aspects. It's really a great balance between politics (Jodha being married to Akbar for political reasons) and romance (Akbar trying to win her love). Hrithik Roshan looks every bit of the Emperor and Aishwarya Rai will really, really surprise you with her great performance. No one will dare to call her a plastic doll after watching the movie. Not only does she have some great and fiery dialogues that she mouths with great elan but also the sword fight between her and Hrithik is great. One of the best parts of the movie is the dialogues. You have chaste Urdu and shudh Hindi too - Akbar being Muslim and Jodha being a Rajput princess. Hrithik and Ash are fab in the film but some other actors like Ila Arun, Sonu Sood are great too. After Lagaan and a patriotic Swades, Ashutosh Gowariker has given a great epic film that should not be missed, no matter what! And thr release time, during the Valentine's, is just great!

Sanjay Dutt marries girlfriend Manyata

Ooops he did it again! Sanjay Dutt has got married for the third time. He has been seeing Manyata (Dilnawaz Sheikh) for the last 2 years and right when there were rumours about them heading for a split, they have got married setting the rumours to rest! Hmm... Quite commendable that Manyata has been with him though he is one of the bomb blast accused and was sent to the jail for the same. But, well, he is a big name so all the controversies would fade away eventually. Anyway, Rhea Pillai had chosen to be with him too when he was deeper in the controversy. He had said so much about how they could never part because she stood by him during his most difficult time. And then they also split before anyone knew it. All my nastiness apart, hope this time it works for him. But his sister Priya Dutt Roncon didn't even know about the marriage and got to know only from the media. That's kinda bad because she has been by his side in spite of her image as a politician being at stake. His other sister Namrata wasn't at the wedding either. Maybe they are not okay with the shaadi.

Max Stardust Awards 2008 - pics and coverage

Hey! I attended the Max Stardust 2008 Awards on Jan 26. Well, the evening was chilly but the ceremony was quite hot!

Film awards, there are dime a dozen these days! You can't make one out from the other - including winners, performers and attendees. But, in one respect the Stardust Awards are different. They are meant for the new talent, as way of encouraging them. Of course, biggies are not left out either.

Firstly, the sets were exquisite! There were little blue lights that were made to look like water flowing in a fountain. Huge masquerade. It was glitzy as hell! The venue MMRDA was PACKED. Enthusiastic fans even stood all of 3 hours of the awards.

Anyway, let me run you through what all happened at the ceremony.

Kunal Kohli was the host of the evening, to be joined by Neha Dhupia later. Their chemistry looked put on, especially coz of Neha; the script could have been better.

Performances included Neha Dhupia, Lara Dutta, Govinda, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. Saif looked really hot!

Govinda can still give the youngest of heroes a run for their money with his dance steps. He was energy personified.

Neha and Lara were good too but Kareena Kapoor looked drop dead gorgeous and has lost a lot of weight. Interestingly, her ex beau Shahid Kapur walked in just minutes before she went on stage, which was just about 15 mins before the show ended.

Irrfan Khan won the best actor in supporting role for Namesake and made a faux pas by thanking Anurag Basu for Life in Metro! Irrfan obviously rectified the mistake.

Ranbir Kapoor won the Superstar of Tomorrow - Male- award but no one from his family was present to take the award and dad Rishi Kapoor turned up much later to do the honours.

Sonam Kapoor was missing too and her dad Anil Kapoor took the Superstar of Tomorrw (Female) award on her behalf.

Sagarika Ghatke (Preeti Sabharwal of Chak De) looked very disappointed when she lost to Kangana Ranaut (for Life in a Metro) for Breakthrough Performance.

Arjun Rampal's wife Mehr kept weeping when he won the Best Actor in a negative role award. I didn't know if those were tears of joy or was she crying about the fact that he may not get another one. I honestly feel his is quite wooden.

Vivek Oberoi received the award for Standout Performance of the Year from his father Suresh Oberoi looked very corny!

Alka Yagnik was one of the judges for the New Musical Sensation – Male and when
Krishna & Salim Merchant won for Chak De India (Maula Mere), she was rather caustic that like a reality show the audiences votes ruled and judges' choice lost.

Nominating songs like 'Do you wanna partner' and 'Soni de nakhre' for best lyrics was so outright ridiculous!

Shahid Kapur won Editor's Choice for Best Actor for Jab We Met and he thanked everyone including Kareena Kapoor. Likewise, Kareena won Star of the Year Female for Jab We Met and thanked only director Imtiaz Ali and Shahid Kapur.

Anyway, Dharmendra (Actor Par Excellence) and Anil Kapoor's (HOTTEST FILM PRODUCER for Gandhi My Father) speeches were very sweet. They both reminisced the old Stardust days.

Will Saif-Kareena's affair last?

Now that Saif Ali Khan has tattooed Kareena's name on his forearm, it would be 'saif' to assume that he is very serious about the chick. But, well, Kareena was very serious about Shahid Kapur. Saif was very serious about Italian beauty Rosa, not too long ago. But getting the tattoo sure is some teller. And he is not even hiding it. Saif has never hidden his relationships really. Hope Saif doesn't have to do what Billy Bob Thornton did to his tattoo of star wife Angelina Jolie. He simply changed it to Angel! But, looking at how easily love affairs break up in Bollywood, what do you guys think? Will this one be a 'happily ever after' story?
Salman beat Abhishek Bachchan to Madame Tussauds!

After Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai, it's now Salman Khan's wax statue to find a place at Madame Tussauds Museum. More interestingly, Aishwarya's ex lover beat her husband Abhishek Bachchan in a poll to be there! Tussauds, along with entertainment magazine Ikonz and BBC Asian Network, conducted a poll in which Salman beat nine other Indian stars including Abhishek Bachchan and Madhuri Dixit. Abhishek came close on second. Salman has already agreed to sit for the Madame Tussauds sculptors and his figure will be officially unveiled early in 2009. Hmm... I'm more interested in knowing if it will be placed anywhere near Ash's statue. But then her sasur AB will be watching over ;) imagine if the statues come alive like in 'Mannequin on the Move'. What fun!

Halla Bol - Hard hitting, real and dramatic!

Movie name: Halla Bol Genre: Drama Actor/ Actresses: Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur, Vidya Balan Review: That's the thing about Rajkumar Santoshi's films. They hit you hard and make you think just by way of showing you reality, without being very preachy. And yet they are entertaining! After a gap, Santoshi has brought yet another masterpiece and again, it's replete with activism. The story is about a small town aspiring actor turned superstar Ashfaque, later renamed Sameer Khan. In his journey in the industry, he gives up all ideals and morals and becomes a corrupt biggie who loses any intimacy with his close ones, including his wife. But then at a party a spoilt brat shoots a girl and all the attendees stand there as mute spectators. This is when Sameer's conscience is caught between his true self and his superstar image. Then along with Sidhu Pankaj Kapur, who plays a reformed dacoit running a street theatre group), he wages a war against the degraded people. Quite clearly, the plot is Jessica Lal murder case. But that's not to say that this is the only problem the movie deals with. It also addresses corruption, power play and the need for raising voice against injustice. Like all Santoshi movies, there are fiery dialogues that would excite the audiences. Ajay Devgan gives another stellar performance but anyone who deserves a standing ovation, it's undoubtedly Pankaj Kapur. Vidya Balan has done a decent job too. The film has a lot of moving sequences. Must watch if you like thought provoking films like Rang De Basanti.

Garma garam release this Friday - Halla Bol

Movie Name: Halla Bol Releases on: 11 Jan, 2008 Cast & Crew: Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur, Vidya Balan What is the film about? The main protagonist is Ashfaque (Ajay Devgan), a small town boy who wants to be a big film star. He begins acting when he joins a reformed dacoit Sidhu's (Pankaj Kapur) street theatre group, aimed at bringing about an awakening in the masses. Ashfaque's struggle pays off and he gets a break in films and also a new screen name - Sameer Khan. He makes it big in the industry in a very short time. But, with stardom he loses his own identity and imbibes vices like corruption and thus gets alienated from his wife Sneha (Vidya Balan) and other loved ones. Then, something shocking happens at a party that traps Ashfaque between his true self and the superficial Sameer Khan. Please don't ask what shocking incident is. What would you watch the movie for then? Anyway, the rest of the movie is about whether he succumbs to his corrupted image or if his real sense gives him good sense, helping him emerge as a true life hero. And I should watch it because...? Great director: It comes from the stable of Rajkumar Santoshi, who directed great films like Ghayal, Damini, Ghatak, Andaaz Apna Apna, Khakee, The Legend of Bhagat Singh... The starcast rocks: Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur and Vidya Balan are all great performers! Gimme more: Sridevi makes a special appearance!! Apart from 10 others like Miss India Sayali Bhagat (does anyone care actually?), Kareena Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, etc
