I am in Delhi after National Science Fiction conference at Varanasi

Dear friends, I am in Delhi after attending the first ever National Discussion/Conference on Science Fiction at Varanasi from November 10-14 th.. Scientists, scientists who also write, science fiction and science writers, Researchers on science fiction, students interested in learning about science fiction all participated. I participated as a science fiction and science writer and presented two research papers. I was happy to interact with intelligent men and women. It was surprising to see that the student community Which included some beautiful girls as well was interested in knowing about me. All the more surprising as I was going about my busines without any intention to attract anyone.Hindustan times reporter took also an interview from me giving me an exposure to the media. Many partcipants became new friends and some travelled with me to Delhi. It is a sort of real networking. Here I want to stress that even though the conference was not a netwrking event it also served as one. Here also I want to add that the networking which ought to be there in sites like fropper is really not working. Though some are good and positive about meeting some long-distance friends do not seem to be interested when i am here very near them in their city where they are in. Full marks to networking! I am inviting a discusion on the networking here. I have already stopped blogging as recognised writers like me are not getting the readership. The number of readership depends on the number of friends one has here and not on the quality. Even though i have stopped blogging i am continuing with networking here. Even in that I am reminded that I need to change my zone details telling that only those interested in real interaction in science, science fiction, literature, music, humour and meanigful dialouge on general matters concerning human beings and interested in meeting me in person should be my friends. I would be doing that. Those who are desirous of meeting me in Delhi maY GET IN TOUCH WITH ME OVER CELL , CALL ME ON MY CELL NUMBER 094865 24155. Would be here for another two days. Friends in other areas participate in the discusion on the netwrking prevailing here and the desired way it should be. selvan

Dear friends, I have enjoyed my time here in fropper. Happy to have made some good friends. Will be completing 9 months by september end. I have found of late and very late this is not a place for serious writers. Every thing howsoever fine it might be is being shrugged off . Also my time has time has come to launch my science organisation. The networking is not working in it's real sense here. many times over i have felt expressions are getting to be a waste of time. Anyway i thank my friends . i may get in touch with friends if they so desire. All of you take care. Wishing one and all the very best. BYE! BYE!
Rumour on ICICI bank going bankrupt

Dear friends, There was a report in a local newspaper here shocking the customers of ICICI bank making them run all the way to the ATMs to draw all the money in their account. The ICICI is facing bankruptcy and closure due to exposure of it's assets in the American Bank Lehman brothers was the news.Lehman brothers went into bankruptcy falling as the latest victim of the U.S. sub-prime house-loan lending woes. The woes relate to the loans disbursed to the riskiest borrowers. The U.S. sub-prime woes have been brewing for quite some time and has been on for some years. The sagging U.S.economy is the culprit in bringing about this shocking state-of-affairs. I happen to be one of the customers of the bank in the news and I received a message late in the evening that the bank is going into bankruptcy. Though I was skeptical of the news I too rushed to the ATM. Everything was OK. Card tansactions were being put through without any hitch. Every bank in India whether in private sector or public invests money abroad in companies like lehman brothers that went into bankruptcy. But all banks are governed by stringent norms to derisk operations of the bank. It is reported that ICICI's bank exposure in investment in the U.S. is only 0.03% of it's total operations. The risk is thus kept to the minimum to the bank itself and no risk to the clients of the bank. The stock markets too went into tail-spin following the reports of Lehman Bros and some others like merryl lynch likely to follow suit. The union fiance minister P. Chidambaram came out with a reassuring statement that all the Indian banks including the ICICI bank follow the RBI norms and therefore the risk to Indian banks is very limited. The stock markets staged a smart recovery following the statement though it is a knee jerk reaction and nothing fundamental changed on the front of indian economy. Further developments have to be watched before commenting further. The fall out of the Lehman Bros. episode does not augur well for the Indian software companies deriving substantial monies from the banking financial serivices segment. Though leading software companies put up a branve face saying they are not affected much there is still cause for concern. I may come out with an update. Thanks for reading . Record your concerns here. Bharath selvan

He did not know! Gathering himself he answered" It is very simple sir! Vladivastak is in the same place where it was sir!" ------ A traveller was going here and there in the railway station. One of them was eating a banana. He was about to throw the banana skin. "Dont throw the skin on the rails" the other friend advised. "Why man?" "The train will slip! " -------- Coming to the end of atrocious jokes. that is about all i could manage this time around. Like it?
My cup of Tea

Dear friends, I chanced upon to see a blog on green tea from a chinese fropperite. I deem it fit to tell you my drinking(!) habit here(Tea only!). I use to have a cup of tea in the morning after breakfast. As I have taken the organic route to fill my belly, the drinking goes with it.The tea I drink is also organic without milk, with organic country sugar and lemon. Tea whether black, green or oolong all come from the same Camellia sinensis which is the Botanical name for tea. The difference between green and other teas- black and oolong is in the processing of tea leaves -while the blakc tea and the oolong tea are fermented , oxidised the green tea is not fermented under going minimal oxidation. Though it appears the green tea has an edge over other teas by the anti--oxidant epigallocatechin gallate(EGCg) in it, black tea which is used in India is no less beneficial than green tea as the flavenoid oxidants in it more than make up for the EGCg converted into a less effective compund during fermentation. When we eat, metabolic activity goes on iside our body releasing free radicals or reactive oxgen species(ROS). These free radicals and ROS if go unchecked will damage the DNA and bring about the resultant illnesses and premature ageing. The anti-oxidants act as scavengers neutralising the free radicals and ROS. Take Organic tea without milk, with organic country sugar, with lemon for best results. But mind you, Tea, be it green , black tea or oolong tea has caffeine as well. Two , three cups, four cups a day will do. More intake may bring in nausea and the complications. Tea research is still on. Welcome to Join me over a cup of tea. You have come to know my drinking(!) habits now. Thanks for reading. Your own drinking(!) comments are welcome. Bharath selvan.

Raphael Nadal better than Roger Federer

Dear friends, I like tennis as it requires unbelievable oncourt mobility, court coverage, invention of angles, fore-hand and back-hand shots, cross court winners and slam-bang aces- above all it requires magnificent stamina throughout matches of around 5 hours duration. The winner is an ample testimony to mental and physical stamina. I love the game just for these and the live action. I move into the tennis arena to compare the two world's best tennis players on sight. Roger Federer dominated at wimbledon the way Bjorn Borg and Pete sampras did winning 5 titles in a row. Not only that. He won 12 grand slams so far only two less behind Pete sampras. His chances of overtaking Pete sampras are very high as he is only 26 and may be around for another 4 years. If that happens he will be an all-time great in tennis. But where Rapael Nadal comes in? Compared to Roger Federer he is a new entrant into the elite wimbledon club. What makes his special is his versatility. Touted as a clay court specialist winning a record 4 french opens in a row he has proved his mettle in the fast surfaces of wimbledon.Only the second player after Bjon Borg to win both french and wimbledon titles.Roger Federer despite his bid to win on the slow clay court for the first time was thwarted by Raphael Nadal in the final for the second year in succession. After winning wimbledon he went further up winning the Olympics gold as well. An incredible run. Nadal replaced Federer at the top as No.1 tennis payer in the world after a long-rein by the latter, by his sheer run of successes. The way Nadal is playing now,he looks all set to conquer more grand slams with fierce determination and ability. A new great player on the block. A muscular rambo-like atehlete taking on the whole set of current top players in the world. Wimbledon title is just an indication of his growing stature. This is not intended to discredit Roger Federer who has won 12 grand slams already looking unstoppable and invincible till Raphael nadal arrived on the scene. He has already cemented his place in history. It is a vote for versatility emerging victorious on radically different surfaces. That way Raphael nadal Stands out. A yard above Federer. Thanks for reading. Your ace(!) comments are welcome. Bharat selvan

Vijender makes it three for India

Dear friends, Vijender became the first-ever Indian boxer to win a medal in Olympics creating history by clinching a bronze medal. Thanks to his efforts, India ends with a three medal tally in Beijing Olympics- one gold and two bronze. Not enough for a nation of one billion. The entire-sports system needs a relook and result- orinted approach for the next olympics. All other sports other than the much pampered cricket needs to be taken seriously and sports men provided with all facilities and encouragement to make a mark on the world arena. I congratulate Vijender for being the third Indian to win a medal in the current olympics. Thanks for reading. Bharath selvan

After Abhinav bindra's ace shooting Sushil kumar lands with a bronze punch!

Dear Friends, After Abhinav Bindra's feat to clinch the historic shooting Gold medal, it is the turn of a wrestler to romp home with a successful punch(though bronze). Freestyle wrestler Sushil Kumar emerged as the only second wrestler, after Kashabha Jhadav who achieved the feat in 1952, to bring home the bronze medal. While the hopes on Akhil kumar were dashed in quarter final Sushil kumar kept his rendezvous with the bonze-winning bout. Just one more medal in the nation of one billions!
INDEPENDENCE DAY -A POSITIVE CELEBRATION

Dear friends,

I am uploading this after the successful Independence Day implementation of the programme for this Glorious day. Today I organised and participated in a tree planting programme. I also prepared and distributed a self-prepared pamphlet explaining global warminng and the need for planting trees to combat it.

Trees are nature's potent weapon against global warming. Trees inhale Carbon-di-oxide( CO2) and expel Oxygen(O2) .Human just do the reverse -they inhale Oxygen and exhale carbon-di-oxide.

Greenhouse houses - Chloroflouro carbons(CFCs) emitted from refrigerant and air-conditioners, carbon-di-oxide emittede due to fuel burning in motor vehicles, houses and industries,Nitrous oxide(N2O) generated by agricultural and industrial activities, Methane(CH4) emanating due to coal, natural gas and petroleum product production and transportation-all produc e green house effect. The light rays received from the sun has to be radiated back to space to avoid warming of earth. But even as the light rays in visible spectrum is radiated back to space, the invisible infra-red rays are retained by the green house gases' greenhouse effect causing global warming.

I already put up a brief on global warming in my EARTH HOUR blog calling for switch-off of electricity between 8 to 9 P.M. on March29 th ,2008. A large number of fropper friends read thorugh this blog and participated in the global switch-off event against global warming.

What I did today is an extension of global warming combat by planting trees on this noble day of our independence.

I am not posting this to gloat over as an achivement. I, just like many other Indians, feel that India ,as it stands, today is not the one dreamt of when we won independence.

Just as I have put in my WELCOME SHOWERS Poem posted earlier here- India appears to be a superpower as I cruise along the four-lane highway wonder- with poverty, penury, rape , theft and murder all beaten into oblivion- just on the highway only. Outside of highway it is the much same-with poverty, penury, rape, theft and murder. Highway is like the carpet where dirt and filth all swept underneath it with cleaning still undone. Highway illusion masks the poverty et al- from the sight temporarily.

It is apt to bring back to your memory my blog on Hunger cafe in mumbai where i regretfully noted that when India boasts of the likes of Lakshmi mittal, Mukesh and Anil ambanis joining the list richest in the world there are still people who are looking for the next meal.

Yes, where is the education to enlighten all and the efforts to empower them to find all the amenities themselves.

Though these questions remain it is prudent for an educated and thinking lot like me to take the first step of doing something for the welfare of the society and country in whatever rightful manner they deem fit- by taking up educating the poor , implementing employment generation schemes, involving in key areas that need attention -organic farming, making available organic food to all as a better nutrition source, making the people eat right diet to stay healthy by eudcating them, by using alternative energy vehicles and appliances in our life.

I have taken this first step and shall continue going ahead with a voluntary organisation for science to address all the key areas that need attention as enumerated above as stated in my 50 th blog for luanching a voluntary organisation for science

This is again no means not a self-adulatory piece. This is just for pointing out the direction in which I am moving which I think many should follow instead of finding fault with our sorry state-of-affairs in our country. Positive strides will really beat the sorry state into oblivion.

Let us not be wishers, preachers but be doers. India needs lots of doers.

Now I am taking upon myself to answer a vexatious question- Who should lead India at this hour?

Successful businessman who make money and amassed wealth. NO? No for the simple reason many of them grew into riches by raising more than throusand crores of public money through public issues. They are interested in furthering their interest as business men. Take the instance of Reliance retail encountering stiff resistance and facing closure as it acted against the interest of the petty shop wallas who are dependent on their small shops for a living.

Do you know?-the petroluem oil refineries who after setting up plants using public issue money are exporting their output to foreign countries where demand in India is not fully met. A total ban on the oil exports is needed to cater to the local demand and stabilise the prices here.

I am not seeking to degrade the likes of global billionaires from India. I admire their business acumen. Let them be just business men where they will continue to amass wealth. Why stop them by offering them to chance to rule. They will not be humanistic in their appraoch.

Then what is my choice- a philoanthropic scientist with equal knowledge of economics- such a person only knows what is required for the country. Mind you we owe a lot to Science and Technology. There is not even a single human being, house, office and industrial house who/which is not using science and technology produced gadgets and appliances in day to day life.

  Science rules supreme. Yes, Amen!
