Blue rambling...!!!

Man, suddenly I am feeling this color. Blue? Yes, its audio-visual world and God had created us to sense the feeling through colors and sounds. Just after the Olympics, somehow I am starting to feel low, sort of dumb and slow, dis-interested in the routine things I have been doing, since I could remember. The boss looks like big rock and wife looks like the green species from another planet. Nothing interests anymore. Work is there, but kind of gets done somehow. Don’t feel like I am giving my best to it. Coffee doesn’t excite as it used to and cookies don’t taste in the tongue-tip that good. Life around me looks sort of stagnant, like the long wait at the traffic lights. People seem to move around like robots. What is it? Why Like This? Is it depression? Is it a prelude calm for the festive season ahead? Is it the lull after a hectic project getting completed? Is it the subcon fear of the massive and almost impossible target ahead at work? Is it just the fatigue that is taking over? Is it that I need a break? If yes, break from what? I am thinking that my relocation has got something to do with this lull. Relocation from Saudi Arabia to the hometown. When I was in the gulf, I always had a break of 1 month where I just break-free from all the routines and get to India, a whole new place and people. Again people welcomed us as rare-guests and we had great time, great care and fun throughout that 1 month. Then get back to work was fresh and energetic experience. But, now I am here, in my hometown, working and no more a guest. People I am seeing everyday. Doing the same thing everyday. The vacation place became routine dwell-spot. No place to ‘go for vacation’. Well, it also means that I must take a break and get away from this place, to somewhere else for a week or so. It is just about 1 year I am working and my wife is cooking. Of course, both are at the limits and I guess that is the reason my mind is refusing to think. Refusing to think creatively, to write new interesting blogs, interacting with nice people around the Fropperland. Great. Man, it feels better after I put those ramblings in here. I am gonna plan a vacation, an escapade from this city and work, possibly in October. Now, I can spend some time in planning and my wife can spend time in preparation for that vacation. Few places are in mind, and will finalize very soon. --- === .... Mhmmmm.. Feeling much better. Let me grab the cup and make myself a hot cup of Black Coffee and dip my head into that drawing...

Second letter to Nikhita...

This is my second letter to Nikhita. My first letter was read, criticized and commented by many of my fropper friends and I wish to thank all of you for extending your opinions. I have been prompted to write this second letter, by some of our friend’s comments, culminated by the comment from our friend, Satya_GN. Dear Nikhita, First of all, I took the privilege to write the first letter from the stand-point of a brother. If I were your brother, I would have done everything possible to stop you from going for the ‘abortion’ at this stage, leave alone going to the court. I would have convinced you to go through it all, would have given all the support you would have needed to go through the pregnancy and finally I swear, if I were your brother, I would have offered to adopt the child immediately upon its birth, regardless it is born normal or abnormal. My dear Nikhita, Let us take all the morals, sentiments, cultural values, human values, whatever values you think I am talking about. Let us assume the court gave the verdict in your favor. Say, you could go ahead aborting the child. Now, Imagine this… You are in your 6th Month of pregnancy. How do the doctors carry out abortion is as below: From the 20th to 23rd week of gestation, an injection to stop the fetal heart can be used as the first phase of the surgical abortion procedure to ensure that the fetus is not born alive. Then a surgical abortion procedure such as D&C or D&E is done to remove the dead fetus out of the womb. Of course, Nikhita, you are currently going through tremendous emotional and mental turmoil, which nobody would imagine to go through. You have a child inside you, which has a possible congenital abnormality (as per the diagnosis of the doctors). You might have to live with a handicapped baby for the rest of your life. You might have to spend all your savings in treating this child. You might have to sacrifice a lot just for this child. Your emotional status is not going to be any better after the abortion, in case if you got the court verdict in your favor. The doctors would have to practically ‘kill’ the baby inside your womb and suck the dead body out. You would not be able to forgive herself from this guilt of killing the child, for the rest of her life. If the baby didn’t survive, it is in God’s hands. We humans are well trained to believe that and move on. But, if that guilty feeling creeps in and takes root, it could even drive you to the point of suicidal frustration. Once again, I would like to clarify to you and all. I am not writing this like a lawyer or like a robot. I too have emotions and I too understand the feelings of the mother-to-be, very well. My first letter was strongly worded only because, I am serious in expressing myself to the mother-to-be and it is still absolutely your prerogative to answer these questions, in the way you wanted to. Finally, as a brother, I am extending all my BLESSINGS to the mother and the child for the best of their health in their lives. I am requesting all those who read this and the earlier letter, to pray for the mother and child at least once a week and help the MIRACLE happen. THANK YOU ALL and THANK GOD…

A letter to Nikhita... - Edited - 6-Aug-08

A Letter to Nikhita… Hello Madam Nikhita, Take a few moments to read this letter, while the entire nation is debating your rights and country’s laws and media is having grand gala time with all the sensation that is being created by this case. I have been following the case as well as your plight and I just have a few questions to ask you and with all your conscience you may try to find answers to these questions. 1. What if the diagnosis was wrong? With all the technological advancement that we have in front of us, we are only getting as close as we can, but we can never be able to pin point the problem the fetus has at the present moment inside you. It may so turn out that when the child is actually born, it could be alright or the problem could minimize. How would place yourself in that situation? 2. What if the doctors did not find out or conclude there was a problem to the fetus at this stage? It was your case that the doctors did diagnose to some extent the problem ad are speculating that the baby could have serious problem at birth. What if they did not inform you and allowed the baby to be born? Does it not mean that you are at the wish and whim of the doctors that you consult? Does it mean that the baby’s survival or death is in the doctors’ hands? 3. What if you (or the doctors) find out the purported defect at the time of birth? Would you still go to court to kill the baby? 4. What if the baby is born blind or deaf, in which case, the technology has not yet come up to predict before birth? Would you still want the baby killed? 5. Your argument and the doctors argument is that the baby if born might not lead a normal life. Now, what is a normal life? A baby born with all its organs normal and functioning at the time of birth is not 100% assured of leading a normal life for ever so to speak. So many things could go wrong after birth that could render the child’s life abnormal. What are your options in that case? 6. The entire nation is now talking about the ‘right’ of the mother to kill / abort her baby. What right does the mother has to kill a baby after it is born? What is the big difference if you kill the baby when it is inside your womb or outside your womb? 7. Finally, what would you normally have done if there were no defects diagnosed by the doctors? You would have given birth to a ‘normal’ baby, that could lead a ‘normal’ life? In fact, the baby would never know if it is leading a normal life or abnormal life when it is born. It is YOU who would not be able to lead a ‘normal’ life with such a baby to take care. It is YOU who would have to go through all the sufferings and extra tension to care of a handicapped baby. It is you who don’t want to leave your ‘comfort zone’ to take care of this special child that is going to be born. Please don’t blame the nature or God or the baby for this situation. It is YOU and only YOU who don’t want to take the extra effort that might be required to raise a 'special child'. God gives special children to ‘special people’. Those who have the love and affection towards mankind in abundance, God entrusts such special children, who are actually ‘angels’ sent by God to test your perseverance. Please do not kick away this golden chance to bring up a special angel, that has been sent to you by God, to make you also a Special Mother, not an Ordinary Mother. Laws or no Laws, rights or no rights, wrongs or no wrongs, Its God’s gift to you and take it as it comes to you. You are nobody else could predict what is going to happen tomorrow nor change it. Thanks for giving a few moments of your time and I hope I said what I wanted to say here. Dear friends, Thanks a ton for participating in this discussion. I am reproducing an opinion by a medical doctor (Dr. Rajashekher) posted in Times of India's forum, KLIK to see the Original post Quote: In this instance, the unborn child has been found to have congenital complete heart block, as per the newspaper. Now, this is a defect which can only be found out by performing an ECG, so I am left wondering how the doctors actually arrived at this diagnosis. Secondly, CHB as it is called, need not be fatal, and in fact, is very easily treated by inserting a pacemaker into the heart chamber, most of the times, the ventricle. Given current technology, it should be possible to insert this pacemaker even while the child is still within the womb, at least in some advanced centers. Given this information, I believe that in this particular instance, the Mehtas have no right to deny their child a right to live, and so the court ruling is correct simply on this ground, in addition to all the technical grounds which they cited. In general, I believe that abortion and killing a child in the womb on the grounds of some possible defect, without being conclusively proved, is not just cruel, it is also bad science, since it doesn't allow scientific endeavor to improve life, to play its role. In this respect it has the same effect on science as does euthanasia. But like euthanasia, a certain degree of freedom should be allowed to the indvidual on a case by case basis, which is surely worthy of debate. Some of the readers r going overboard in criticizing the judgment on the grounds that the birth of a child who is physically or mentally handicapped is such an agony to the parents that it is worse than killing them! This hyperbole needs to be tempered by some strong scientific points which we must keep in mind, which are: 1)It is not possible to conculsively prove in the intra-uterine state that child will have or will not have a given physical handicap or a mental handicap of such a degree or not, by any means. 2)The said defect in this child was of a kind which did not merit such a drastic step In fact, when this child grows up and learns of the debates and discussioon around his birth, and realizes that his parents were hell bent on killing him for a defect which was so easily treated, I have no doubts that the mental agony caused to him at that time will be worse than death. - Dr. Rajashekher. UNQUOTE. Also please read the comment from Mr. ANIL KUMAR NAIR on similar case, wherein the parents are going through extreme suffering and supporting Mehtas for their decision. And the Lawyers' opinion is the first posting under the above TOI forum, which could mean that Nikhita still can get the go-ahead to 'terminate' the child...!!!

Singh is King...???

It was no less than a 20-20 or a Euro Finals... What a drama unfolded yesterday, with all possible and impossible things happening all parliamentary (read:Bad words) and unparliamentary (read:decency) things said against each other, with no rules barred, with slapstick satire thrown in, The Great Indian Parliament voted for Trust Vote. To look at from outside, this is still an achievement for our great nation, to complete the process of the Trust vote and declare the results and abide by it. All the players gracefully accepted the results and went home with next move or plan of action in their mind. I would call this is the True Democracy at its best. You throw anything on it. Any amount of dirt and dust, it still stands tall. Consider this happening in USA or any other country who call themselves as democracy. If this were in USA, the decision would have been already taken by the CIA, instructions given to Bush and Co., to pass the ‘bill’ in Congress or Senate will be just another routine, as everyone knows exactly what to vote Aye or Nay. What they wouldn’t know is the Why’ of it. Here in India, every party tries to be in power, tries to be popular and its always anybody’s game. It is never ruled by an ‘external’ agency. Some might say, even this result was rigged by CIA, but I would differ in the sense that, the Nuclear deal has been all along blocked by CIA indirectly, to continue the Nuclear Isolation of India from the rest of the countries. And once again, the Left has been shown their place, in their own language. Their Red mask has been torn by their own indulgence into Orange against the Tri-colors. And the way Somnathjee behaved, conducted the entire episode, is not a small task as it looks. That kind of management of such unruly mob in a confined space, with the entire world watching is something similar to entering the ring of mad animals trying to tame them. My salutes to the great Parliamentarian. And of course to our own Lalu, for his contribution to the drama, with his superb timed comedy, digging at everyone, including George Fernandez... Man, We Love Ya... (KLIK TO VIEW HIS SPEECH) And still, We are the Best Democracy in the World.

I am a GREEN Driver.. How about you..?

What is being Green? Global Warming, Green-house effect, Ozone layer depletion, CO2 emission, changing extreme weather conditions, increasing temperatures, devastating rains and droughts, more frequent cyclones and unprecedented forest fires – these have been the major concern for the entire world, regardless of advanced nations or growing countries, as the effect is global and everyone is affected. Where we are now? CO2 Emission has been on an unprecedented rise in the past few decades for reasons attributable to faster growth rates of many countries around the nation. We must point out that the world’s CO2 emissions from the transportation sector exceeded 5 G annual tons in 2002, of which more than 4.2 G came from road transportation (which is an incredible 84%), CO2 emissions from transportation for 2030 are projected to exceed 8.5 G tons. With respect to the European Union, forecasts show that between 2000 and 2030 emissions will increase by 1 G to 1.3 G tons annually in Europe alone. In short, CO2 emissions from the transportation sector are at a very high level and therefore have tremendous environmental consequences. What are we doing now? The entire world is now focusing on CO2 saving. Which really means reducing CO2 emissions as far as possible. Every vehicle that runs on the road emits CO2 at different levels, depending upon its fuel consumption and engine efficiency. We are trying to develop projects that could save or absorb the CO2 being emitted now and that would be emitted in future. How a vehicle contributes to CO2 emission? Every vehicle that runs on petroleum fuel exhausts consists of 70% nitrogen, 15% carbon dioxide (CO2), 15% water vapour. While Nitrogen and Water vapor do not contribute to global warming, scientists have proved that increase in CO2 in the atmosphere will increase the atmospheric temperature. For example, doubling the CO2 content in the air would cause a rise of 5 to 6 degrees in air temperature. This rise globally would mean disasters in unimaginable proportions. What is the Acceleration Menace? It may be surprising to know that a vehicle uses more than 6 times the average fuel during acceleration than during cruising at a normal speed. That implies every time a vehicle brakes and accelerates in lower gears, the vehicle consumes 6 times more fuel, resulting 6 times more CO2 than it could have emitted. See below the average fuel efficiency of a 2 Liter car 1st Gear – 1.51 kmpl (Kilometer per Liter) 2nd Gear – 2.27 kmpl. 3rd Gear – 4.55 kmpl. 4th Gear – 9.09 kmpl. 5th gear – 11.11 kmpl. In our Indian Metros, we are driving most of the times 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, thereby we are consuming an average of 6-7 times more fuel than our counterparts else where in the world. That implies every time a vehicle brakes and accelerates, it is consuming 5 times more fuel, than it would have consumed if it didn’t brake unnecessarily. What I Can do to reduce CO2 emissions? You can contribute to the reduction of CO2 Emission by following few simple driving rules and road habits. As the entire world is talking about being ‘green’ in whatever they do, you can also become a ‘green driver’. Unlike other ‘green’ projects which are under development and expensive at least as of now, this project does not cost you money, instead it saves you money and benefits your city community as a whole. How can I be a GREEN DRIVER? Well, a Green driver contributes to reduction of CO2 emission, primarily by other vehicles on the road and as a indirect benefit, directly reduces his own CO2 emission as well. Remember, every time a vehicle brakes and accelerates it uses 6 times more fuel – 6 times more CO2 emission into the atmosphere. Now by adopting to ‘green driving’, you follow these principles: 1. When I enter a main road, I stop, watch the traffic from right, allow them to pass and then enter. Imagine you are entering a main road from a side road without watching to the right, and a truck is coming at 40 kmph speed. He has to brake until you enter and pick up speed and then he accelerates. That was 1 x 5 times more CO2 into the atmosphere because of you. If there were 5 vehicles coming behind that truck, then multiply that by 5. 2. When I have to turn, I plan my turn, take the correct lane to turn and turn when the signal is Green. Unplanned turns cause the vehicles on the other lane to slow down and accelerate after you pass. At least 5 vehicles accelerate because of you. 3. I don’t make my own lanes at traffic signals. Each traffic signal has at least one (or more) lane(s) to go straight, one to turn right and one to turn left (if any). If you make another lane between these 3 lanes just because there is space, you slow down the entire traffic, as there would be only 1 lane to go in the front. All the extra-lane vehicles try to squeeze through and you end up slowing down the traffic and then accelerate, more CO2 into the atmosphere. 4. I stop always on the stop line: This would help the pedestrians cross on the zebra crossing and the other side traffic to pass faster. If you overshoot the zebra crossing, people walk on the road, the other side traffic slows down, more CO2 into the air… 5. I never drive on the other side of the road especially, at traffic signals: At the traffic signal, if you cross over the median line to the other side, the on-coming vehicles will have little place to pass, slowing down the vehicles, more fuel consumption and more CO2 into the air. 6. I don’t stop or park on roads with only 2 lanes: By ad-hoc stopping and parking, even for few minutes causes more vehicles to brake and accelerate emitting more CO2. 7. I never go through One way roads: Most of the One way roads are unmonitored and if one vehicle comes in the opposite direction, it could cause as many as 50 vehicles to slow down and accelerate Emitting more CO2. 8. I always insist the driver of the vehicle I travel in follow these principles/ rules, be it a cab, a bike, an Auto, or a bus. You sure can insist on the drivers of these vehicles you ride in, and I am sure at least half of them would oblige and that is a big achievement. This is not an exhaustive list of principles. Anything that does least hindrance to the main traffic contributes in multi-folds… Assume you are violating each of the above in one day at least once, and as an average 5 vehicles slowed down and accelerated because of you, the resulting CO2 emitted into the atmosphere is an average of 8 acts x 5 vehicles x 6 times more fuel consumption. That is an whopping, 240 TIMES CO2 emitted into the atmosphere on a single day because of you. That also means that if you follow these rules, in One day, you contributed to the CO2 saving by at least 240 times of the fuel consumption of 1 vehicle. Now, if you follow these simple principles, you can feel yourself proud of contributing to the environment, by reducing the CO2 that could otherwise have been emitted by others because of you. …and You can call yourself a GREEN DRIVER. Who will listen? Well the greatest and oldest arguments we always have is ‘it is impossible to correct the people, they will never learn, why only I have to change when nobody else is ready to change?, etc., etc… Now, myself, I am following these principles. I always stop at the stop line on Yellow and at least 3 out of 5 stops along with me. Of course, that 2 out of 5 overshoots. But, at least 3 stopped. If I had overshot, all the 5 would also have overshot the line for sure. The same will work for you too. It works and all it takes is your commitment to the environment, your trust that you can set an example, your belief that we are all educated civilized people and sure we all together can make this earth a better place to live for our children tomorrow. Slowly but surely we can bring about this green revolution, one more time… What you could do? · Please share this article with as many friends as possible. · Please put in your comment with these words “I am a Green Driver. I contribute to saving the Earth.” · Please feel free to print this article and try to distribute to your colleagues. · Please help me start this Green Driver Campaign and take it to next levels - the print and visual media. I am confident that we all together can bring about the changes and save the Mother Earth.
