Bal Thackeray warns Sikhs to stop violence

>> Click here to view original post When someone like Bal Thackeray, whose party is rather notorious for goondaism, asks someone else to stop violence, you can't help but snicker. And then the second thought that comes to your mind is that he probably wants a monopoly in that aspect as well. "The open display of swords, assaults on innocent men and women, forced closure of shops and vandalising of railway property have angered Thackeray and his son Uddhav." De ja vu! Isn't that how things are in Mumbai when the Sainiks are rioting too? "Why should innocent people and public property in Maharashtra be targeted?’’ Classic case of pot calling kettle black. See, the problem here is NOT that the property in Maharashtra is targeted. The problem is that the property is not damaged by Marathis but Sikhs. Only the Sena cadre has any right to damage Maharashtrian property because it's their baap ka property!

Rahul Dravid responsible for Bangalore Royal Challengers' poor performance?

>> Click here to view original post Well, at least Vijay Mallya thinks Charu Sharma and captain Dravid are both responsible why Bangalore Royal Challengers are at the fag end as far as points in IPL are concerned. The blame game continues here as well. Charu Sharma has been sacked as the CEO and for all the poor performances bad facilities during practice were blamed. Mallya is blaming Dravid and Sharma for ignoring his choice of players. Anyway, now Brijesh Patel has been brought in as the CEO because he is the secretary of the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association). So obviously he's the best person to provide facilities the team needs at its base in Bangalore. Pehle kyun nahin socha? Maybe because anyway the IPL is more of a glam show than cricket so guess since Charu Sharma is a name more well known and a face more seen, he was the first choice! Bangalore Challengers' semifinal hopes have been quashed, hope they will win some matches and save their face!

Eat out without gaining weight!

The greatest fact of life - if it tastes good, it has to be fattening! How else do you explain chocolates, cheese, rasgullas being so amazingly full of calories? But there are ways to battle the calorie syndrome and yet have finger licking good food. Came across these gorgeous tips on shaaditimes.com. So, follow these and enjoy the good life with good food! 1) Do NOT miss out on breakfast of lunch the day you intend to eat out or order in. If you think skipping breakfast or lunch will cut down on calories to make up for the extra calories of the restaurant food, think again. Skipping meals will only make you more hungry and have you eating more than usual. Before heading out, you should eat a small salad or have a glass of fruit or vegetable juice so that you will eat less in the restaurant. 2) Walk to the restaurant if it's nearby. If it is situated in a mall, you could do a couple of rounds of the mall before eating. Take a walk after dinner to burn off some of the extra calories. 3) Go for healthy options in restaurants, like wheat breads instead of white breads, clear soups instead of thick broths, sautéed main courses instead of fried ones, and even high protein dishes. If it is not mentioned specifically on the menu, do ask the head waiter for healthier choices of your favourite dishes. 4) Order dishes with lower fat content and that are lesser in calories. For example, tandoori items in a Mughlai restaurant, steamed dishes and sautéed foods at Chinese restaurants, wheat pizzas and pasta with vinaigrette dressings at Italian places, and South Indian fare (idli, dosa, upma etc) when it comes to fast food. 5) No food like junk food? Eat healthy by ordering child portions. Opt for the kid's meal if availbale. You'll end up eating only half the portion that you would generally eat and your taste buds would get the fix that they so desperately seek. 6) For the sweet tooth, go for fruit salads, ice lollies and low-fat desserts. Gelatos of late are a great way with being 99 % fat free and extremely yummy! If possible, share the dessert with the others at your table so that you end up eating less of it. 7) So you don't like wasting food? Remember, better wasted in the plate than in stomach! Don't over eat just to finish off... It'll give you bad tummy. You can get it packed and give it to a beggar or even to your dog.

So who are the real Mumbaikars? Maharashtrians or Kolis?

Gosh! The issue of Mee Mumbaikar refuses to die out. Yesterday's Sunday Mid Day ran a story about Kolis speaking up against the MNS' menace in the last few days. It is a known fact that Kolis are the original inhabitants of Mumbai. After what MNS morons are doing to the "outsiders", the Koli community has spoken out. Their stance is that firstly, Mumbai doesn't belong to the people who are throwing North Indians out because they themselves come from different parts of Maharashtra rather than being from Mumbai. Makes sense. Just like North Indians are outsiders in Mumbai, even if they are in India, the other guys are as much outsiders because they are from other parts of the state rather than being from Mumbai. The Kolis have expressed their disgust about the fact that if they being the original inhabitants don't have a problem with North Indians working here, what business do the MNS, SS guys have objecting to it. The Kolis have grossly been marginalized over the years. There are only about 5 lakhs of them and they let people from other regions settle here and have themselves been neglected. And look at what we all are doing to the city! Their business has suffered greatly because North Indians and other Maharashtrians go to the fish market even before the Kolis themselves can go there to sell their products. But they are still objecting. The Koli community hints that if the MNS, Shiv Sena etc are willing to live in peace in the city and live others live peacefully, they can stay here. But they are going to resort to violence and throw other Indians out, they can leave the city too. How can the MNS and SS claim to love Mumbai if they are destroying the city with hatred? Anyway, Mumbai belongs as much to any Indian who wants to settle here as it does to the Kolis and Maharashtrians

After Raj Thackeray, it's Uddhav's turn to incite regionalism!

Raj Thackeray and Abu Azmi have both been booked for inciting violence. But does that stop others from creating trouble in the name of caste and religion? Obviously no! Right when Raj is being criticized for what he did last week, it's Uddhav Thackeray who is up to the old 'Marathi Manoos' madness. Looks like Shiv Sena is worried that Raj might gain popularity amongst Marathis with his 'Marathi pride' antics. So, what does Uddhav want to do? Stop workers from 'outside' being hired for modernisation of Mumbai airport! "There are going to be one lakh jobs for airport works. If you bring outside workers, then they will be packed off in a parcel and sent back in a cargo plane," he says Uddhav rather cheekily. "Shiv Sena is not against development", it seems. Right! As if the Sena wasn't enough to create a rift between people, now there is the offshoot MNS also! I'm sure this is not the end to the story. Their will be many more such incidents.

Sania Mirza's loss to Venus Williams

Sania Mirza lost to Venus Williams in the third round of the Australian Open on January 19. But, I honestly think she put up a brave fight. The Wimbledon champ Venus won two straight sets, alright, but 7-6, 6-4 is not bad at all! It was close. I think Sania is getting better. Another impressive fact of this match was that both Venus and Sania refused to have their match postponed to the following day or play at another arena (Vodafone) just because Federer and Tipsarevic's match on the premium arena (Rod Laver) went on much longer than expected and there was Lleyton Hewitt and Marcos Baghdatis' match to be played. I'm glad they stood their ground and showed that their match was also important.

No skin show from Bollywood stars this New Year's eve!

>> Click here to view original post

The moral police is at it again! According to their dictum, Bolly stars cannot expose butt, thighs or breasts when they dance for New Year's eve.

But if someone's idea of partying is seeing skimpily clad women dancing, then what's wrong? They are paying for it and it's not the stars are being victimised and made to dance in skimpy clothes forcefully.

I mean, it's only adults who go to these parties, so chance of corrupting innocent minds here...

A better thing to do would be to not allow such shows being aired on any channel. or just get child lock in action. This is party pooping, man! Had Mallika's dance not been aired last year all this prob would not have happened. News channels need to have more discernment because news is normally watched by grown ups even when kids are around!

Narain Karthikeyan does it for India!

>> Click here to view original post Honestly, I'm not into Formula 1 or car racing as such. I don't understand the fine nuances of racing but well when a feather is added to India's cap in terms of sports, it is exciting! Ok, let me rephrase that... when a feather is added to India's cap in terms of sports other than cricket, it is exciting! I had anyway been thinking about how there is always this much brouhaha when it comes to Cricket and there may be other equally deserving sportsmen who go unnoticed. Then I read about Narain Karthikeyan's feat. Kudos to the young chap! I'm sure it must have been a jolt of sorts for him to lose the status of Williams' test driver in F1 but just a week after that he wins the A1 GP race. And I like this dude's attitude. He says that he would love to drive for F1 but he is not dying to that at the same time. He goes on to add that last year they gave him very little testing and then the Williams' thing happened. To quote him, "there is no point in doing a job like that. If they don't want to utilise my services, I'm fine with it. I'd rather focus on A1 GP and bring in results." I think we really need to celebrate every victory that comes India's way. Let's give credit where it's due. And seruiously, how many rallyists do we really have? As for cricketers, there are a dime a dozen! *p.s - I haven't written how did Karthikeyan win because I didn't see the race myself. Please go to the link for all the adrenaline rushing moments!

Khushboo disrespects goddesses

>> Click here to view original post

I always thought Khusboo was considered a goddess herself down south! It's a strange (maybe sadistic even) relief that people know their Gods from human beings.

But then again, I kinda feel sad for Khushboo. I mean, you can't keep track of the 1 lakh protocols that people have framed in the name of religion. Ok, I can still understand objection to the wearing slippers in front of idols, but sitting cross legged? I mean, why not? How is that disrespectful?

Looks like people just have an agenda against celebrities and pan them unnecessarily for everythig they do. Guess it was just a blunder on her part, but to file a case against that seriously is a bit much and shows how jobless these people are. And it makes three cases against her!

Oh, by the way, what do they say about God being omnipresent? So, I guess we should never be wearing footwear and sit crosslegged because even if there isn't an idol of Gods, Gods are present themselves in full glory!

Trouble in Kolkata again - from Nasreen to Nandigram

Violent protestors seriosly need to get a life... pronto! I really don't understand ransacking public property and troubling aam junta for something as arbit as portesting against controversial and exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen's extension of visa to stay in India. For example, the kids who were trapped in school for hours done have nothing to do with the decision to let Nasreen stay. And then the protest took a more violent turn and their focus changed from Nasreen to Nandigram. It started as a roadblock by 100 people from All India Minority Forum against Nasreen but soon escalated to something more severe - the Nandigram issue. After 1992 Babri Masjid demolition riots, this was the first time the police couldn't control the mob and had to call the army, which couldn't control them either! Sadly this is taking a communal turn now with the vandalism being orchestrated by the Jamiat-e-Ulema-Hind. As Jamiat founder Siddiqullah Chowdhury threateningly and shamelessly says, “It’s just the beginning. The ruling CPM will feel the heat soon.’’ Apparently, since Kolkata is the heart of the state, Jamiat wanted to earn sympathy here as well by leading a Muslim agitation and provoking a police reaction. I'm not very sound when it comes to politics, but can't help noticing that CPM chief Buddhadev Bhattacharjee never called the army for 10 long months when CPM was responsible for all the violence in Nandigram. The curfew has been lifted but looks like WB has become such a hotbed of violence of late!
