About me : I prefer private communications to filling up my "scrapbook" below. Hit the "Send Message" link in the left column pl, if you feel like talking. Thank you. "The kite was soaring, & I was trying to make it go just a little more up. I was only looking up, & must have been unconsciously moving backwards. What happened next is a blur; what I recall now is I was hanging from the edge of the second floor roof by my bare hands, holding on to precious life, & honeybees were all over me! I had chosen to fall near an old ladder built with thick hollow bamboo shafts that contained a honeybee nest! I was expecting some scolding after doctor patched up my face, arms, & legs; I had often been warned not to fly kites on the roof alone. But mom just tucked me in bed, moved her fingers through my hair, drew the curtains, & left the room." This story pretty much sums up the story of my life. Attempt a "foolish" adventure, great success, great tragedy that always manages to get averted just in time (some kind souls call me lucky), tend to the wounds for a while, & hey, I just cannot resist getting on with the next "foolish" ("impossible", "too difficult", "forbidden") venture. There have been adventures that brought great rewards, others that were near failures & took time to get out of. But it is their excitement & fun that makes life interesting. Time to bore you now - for completeness' sake. My Physics teacher in school once told me not to leave boring details of projects unfilled.I am an engineer by education, now in software development business. I am well traveled (& still a vegetarian); Hindu by birth; speak Hindi, English, Punjabi & a tiny bit of Marathi & Kannada - all with accent. I am of all places, & belong nowhere. Prefer colorful to grey. And I don't just mean colors of light! Am happily single, & have always been. And unless I really make the goddess angry, I hope to remain so for a while. |

Interest & Hobbies : Hiking, long walks, play with gadgets of all kinds. |
Favorite Music & Artists : Mostly Hindi film, or Punjabi folk (but no bhangra pl). Some Hindi pop & remix. Tamil numbers that Sun TV sometimes shows - the colorful & melodious ones with pretty girls (I don't know the language). I would normally check out anything new from Shazia Manzoor; she has done her share of junk, but she has also given some real gems. |
Favorite Books & Authors : Two authors that affected me most are both women - Ayn Rand, & Jean Auel. Former gave answers to most "moral" questions I have faced since teen years; later for historical development of the idea of a human being - roots of both our prejudices & greatness. Find Atlas Shrugged of former, & the first 3 novels of later (Clan of Cave Bear, Vally of Horses, & Mammoth Hunters). Their other novels are readable, & but these 4 are unmatched. No melodramatic stuff & love stories please. Can tolerate detectives. Debonair used to be very popular on IIT campus when I was student. Other favorites include Mad Magazine, Asterix, Panchtantra, and more. |
Favorite Movies, Actors & Directors : I have liked many movies of Hrishikesh Mukherji. Also I would normally check out anything by Mani Ratnam. Hindi favorites list is big. I do sometimes watch Hollywood movies, but prefer only the ones with universal themes not normally found in Hindi movies - like Ice Age or Karate Kid. |
